Seeking Feedback from Family Members of Children Receiving Services from any System
The NYS Office of Mental Health, along with other state partners, families, youth, and advocacy organizations, is developing a family toolkit to provide easy to understand information on where to go when children are experiencing challenges and hints on how to decide what type of services might be most needed and appropriate to meet families’ needs. A particular focus will be for those children and youth that need services to address both mental health and developmental disabilities needs.

Meet your Regional Parent Advisors and Youth Partners!
The primary role of each Regional Parent Advisor and Youth Partner is to build a relationship with all of the family and youth support services within their region. Parent Advisors and Youth Partners provide a forum for local family and youth support services to network with one another. They serve as liaisons, facilitating communication between the New York State Office of Mental Health and the families in the community.

Back to School Spotlight...
Peer Support Matters
As kids prepare to go back to school, please remember that August is ”Don’t Be a Bully” month, leading into October's "National Bullying Prevention" month.
While young people with disabilities and mental health diagnosis are at an increased risk of being bullied, all young people for various reasons face the challenges of bullying everyday.
Racism, Ableism, Hatred, anti - LGBTQIA+ , Sexism,
and all forms of Discrimination
impact the mental health of young people.
Youth and Family Peer support can be contributing factor in bullying prevention. Schools working together with those with lived-experience can develop peer education, team-building, and leadership activities that help to foster friendships, build empathy, make schools safer and inclusive for all students, including children with special healthcare needs.
Stand Up
Against Hate,
Racism & Discrimination.
Make Diversity, Equity, Equality, Inclusion, Civility And Unity Our Destiny.

Strategic Sharing in Different Contexts
|
In this webinar, presenters focused on different kinds of contexts in which young adult peer support specialists (PSSs) might share aspects of their lived experience—for example, with their youth/young adults, family members or other professionals; or for advocacy purposes. Presenters reviewed a variety of scenarios and discussed how PSSs can safely share their stories in ways that support their young people and their work.
