Supporting Nonprofits in Western NC

We’re heartened and inspired by the unwavering dedication of community groups, nonprofits, and people rallying together to meet the urgent needs of western North Carolina. The Center is steadfast in our commitment to support the nonprofits and communities affected by Hurricane Helene on the long road of rebuilding. Our disaster recovery and resources page is continually updated – including pro bono recovery counseling, relief funding, tax and unemployment assistance, and connections to local organizations providing crucial aid. Check back often and let us know of additional resources to amplify these efforts.

If you’re attending next week’s conference (details below), feel free to bring essential item donations that we will collect during the event and pass along to organizations who know where they're needed most. More details are provided in registration confirmation messages.

Collaboration at the Center

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the power of collaboration between nonprofits, government, and corporations has become increasingly evident. In a recent article for Armstrong McGuire, the Center’s President and CEO, Ivan Canada, reflects on the importance of these partnerships in both times of crisis and daily community support, highlighting the nonprofit sector’s critical role in long-term recovery and resilience.

Stay Cyber Alert

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month and lurking phishers, scammers, and hackers (oh, my!) should be ever-present on your radar. It’s good practice to regularly refresh your organizational security checks and staff know-how, so we tapped some experts – who also happen to be trusted Center partners – for their top cybersecurity tips to keep our organizations secure.

Member Resource Bonus: Too much is never enough with cybersecurity and this guide has a few more ways to improve security throughout your entire organization.

Member Benefit Bonus: First Nonprofits is a long-time partner of the Center, offering unemployment insurance programs that save Members an average of $163 per employee on unemployment costs (orgs can enroll now for savings in 2025). ICYMI, they now also offer comprehensive cyber protection solutions.

Voting Starts Now!

Nonprofits have been educating and rallying voters (thank you!) across the state to take advantage of their rights and civic duty. Today’s an important day for voters to make that happen for the 2024 Fall Elections – Early Voting sites open today.
