Prayer for True Tranquility
My God, You are Supreme over all creation. We ask that You bring us true tranquility as we pursue peace with others. Your Word teaches us that the underlying cause of conflict is our central selfishness. As Your divine love pours into our hearts, may it cleanse us of all self-centeredness and replace it with Your gentleness, sympathy, compassion, insight, and patience. May we be instruments of Your peace, and in so doing, receive Your peace of mind. Amen.

People do not "commit" suicide, they "die by" suicide
|
|
Language is important!
Let’s change our language around suicide. A change in language helps to destigmatize suicide. Language transformation is a first step towards creating safe communities of conversation and support.
How we talk is how we think. How we think is how we live.
Personal Messaging: Some suggestions
- DON'T SAY "commit suicide", INSTEAD SAY "died by suicide or took his/her life through suicide"
- DON'T SAY "successful attempt", INSTEAD SAY "suicide death"
- DON'T SAY "unsuccessful attempt", INSTEAD SAY "suicide attempt"
- DON'T SAY "completed suicide", INSTEAD SAY "suicide"
- DON'T SAY "dealing with a suicide crisis", INSTEAD SAY "working with a suicide crisis"
- DON'T SAY "a suicide ideator/attemptor", INSTEAD SAY "person living with suicidal thoughts or behavior"
If we can openly and respectfully talk about suicide, we can help to prevent suicide.
Remember to share this number widely:
Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1-800-273-8255 or text TALK to 741741
The Suicide Prevention Network meets monthly. Find out how to join in at this page.

LCP receives CPC Grant
The Leadership Coaching Project receives a grant of $1200 from the Church Periodical Club
|
|
Province V is grateful to announce that the Leadership Coaching Project (LCP) has been chosen as a recipient of a grant from the Church Periodical Club. The $1278 grant will provide books for continuing education to the 24 LCP coaches. Each coach will receive a copy of Group and Team Coaching (Essential Coaching Skills and Knowledge) by Christine Thornton. They will also be able to choose one of the two following books: The Coach Model for Christian Leaders: Powerful Leadership Skills for Solving Problems, Reaching Goals, and Developing Others by Keith E. Webb or TransforMissional Coaching: Empowering Leaders in a Changing Ministry World by Steve Ogne and Tim Roehl. The LCP coaches meet monthly and will be able to use these resources as part of their continuing education work together. And of course, these books will in turn help the coaches help YOU.
The Church Periodical Club (CPC) is an independent, affiliated organization of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church, dedicated to the worldwide Ministry of the Printed Work and to the Promotion of Christian Mission. It is the only organization in the Episcopal Church dedicated solely to providing free literature and related material, both religious and secular, to people all over the world who need and request them. The CPC is funded by voluntary contributions from all levels of the Church by people in the pews. Click CPC Donations if you are interested in donating. If you have questions about CPC or how to get more information for your local ministry context, contact Maryfran Crist.
The Province V Executive Board is grateful to the Church Periodical Club and the leaders of Province V who made this grant possible. The trained coaches of the Leadership Coaching Project are available for leaders across the church. See more information here.

Dismantling Racism
Date of next meeting: Sept 15, 11 am E / 10 am C
The Becoming Beloved Community grants have been announced - congratulations to teams in Province V who have received funding for their work in dismantling racism:
A seed grant was awarded to: "Listen, Learn, and Repent" Christ Church, Detroit (Diocese of MI) and impact grants went to "Understanding systemic racism in the Episcopal Church" (Diocese of Southern Ohio) and "Tell Me the Truth About Racism: Training the Trainers" (Diocese of Chicago).
"Tell Me The Truth About Racism" is the Godly Play-style curriculum for children developed by Jennifer Enrique and Will Bouver. This grant will support their ability to train other folks and continue developing this program. Here is more from Jen & Will:
"TMTAR offers a core story of the Big Lie of Racism for free on its website and YouTube channel to introduce children gently, truthfully, and faithfully to the reality of racism in our world. The goal for children and adults alike is to remember ourselves as children of God and therefore to recognize racism as a lie about who we really are. The training program funded by the Episcopal Church’s Becoming Beloved Community Grant walks alongside future storytellers as they prepare to tell the core story of the Big Lie of Racism in their own community.
****
The Episcopal Church office of Racial Reconciliation is seeking to gather information on the work of Becoming Beloved Community across this church. Following up on last year's survey, this year's questions focus on the work of "Telling the Truth". Is your congregation or organization doing work in the following areas?
- investigating their historic role in racial injustice;
- linking historic and ongoing patterns of racial injustice;
- committing to specific action to repent, heal and repair past and present injustices with which our organizations and members are complicit (also known as “reparations”).
We invite you or a delegate to please fill out the new survey by August 20th. It should take no more than 20 minutes to complete. You may also forward this email to other congregations and institutions in your diocese so they can report on their ministries.
