The Promise of the Gift of the Holy Spirit
In the passage from his Farewell Discourse in Sunday's Gospel, Jesus promises that the Father will send an Advocate in his name to teach the Apostles and remind them of all that he had shared with them. As Pope Francis notes, "This is the Holy Spirit, who is the Gift of God’s love that descends into the heart of the Christian. After Jesus has died and risen, his love is given to those who believe in him and are baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." (Regina Caeli, 17 May 2020)
On Pentecost Sunday, June 5, Cardinal Gregory in the Rite of Confirmation will call upon the Holy Spirit to give our 30 Confirmation Candidates "the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and fortitude, the spirit of knowledge and reverence, and fill them with the spirit of wonder and awe."
Let us pray for our Confirmation candidates and:
—for the sick, especially Chris Lester, Frances Lester, Earle Silvers, Dr. Robert Ryan, Suzanne Holm, Colleen House, Francis Tong, Mary & Carl Milewski, Therese Fergo, Richard Schmidt, Maria Gianino, Yolanda Mendez Acevedo, Mary Sullivan, Anne Rader, Robyn Nishimi, Bryson Anderson, Paul Gruber, and Blanca Rose Juarez, and
—for the recently deceased, especially Mary Ackerman.

Donate in Support of Life
St. Matthew's Respect Life Committee this year invites your direct gift to The Northwest Center, a longtime beneficiary of our Mother's Day Drives. The Center promotes the dignity of women and a respect for all human life by offering support and comprehensive aid needed to enable women to continue their pregnancies, deliver healthy babies, and care for themselves and their children. Thank you for considering a gift.
National Foster Care Awareness Month
"Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained by the world." (James 1:27)
Family is where kids are loved, protected and nurtured, but for children who age out of the foster care system without a family, 1 in 3 will become homeless and 1 in 5 will be incarcerated. Sixty percent of trafficked youth come from the foster care system. This month, let us pray for children in foster care, and for loving families to welcome them.
