April 1, 2020

Dear Monroe County Schools Students, Staff, and Families:

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced an Executive Order today that all public schools in Georgia are closed for in-person instruction for the remainder of the school year. Monroe County Schools will continue Alternative Learning Days with the exception of Spring Break, April 6-10.

Monroe County Schools intends to provide the best possible instruction and service to our students for the remainder of the school term. We expect to get more guidance from the Georgia Department of Education regarding Governor Kemp's latest Executive Order in the next few days. Information regarding graduation, year end events, and grading will be communicated to our families in the coming weeks.

These are certainly trying times, but we teach our children to be resilient in the face of adversity, and we will continue to support them in any capacity that we can. We know our families have a lot of questions right now. For that matter, everyone has a lot of questions and concerns right now. Our primary focus will be to follow safety guidelines and help our society overcome this deadly pandemic. We will get through this together.

As always, it is indeed a pleasure to serve our students, parents, and community. See http://www.monroe.k12.ga.us for information on our schools.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mike Hickman

Superintendent of Schools
