It also calls us to learn more of the social and political history that is the legacy of slavery, and that continues to shape American culture. There is much to learn, including from Henry Louis Gates, Jr.'s remarkable 2019 book
Stony the Road.

Wishing you could go on a kid-free date for Valentine's Day without breaking the bank? You're in luck! The Yuuth Group is hosting our annual parents' night out on
Friday, February 14. We'll provide dinner, play games, activities, and watch a movie.
5:30-9 p.m.
$5 fee + $5/hour = $22.50 per kid if they stay the whole 3.5 hours.

Come for t
his truly muti-gen event. It looks a bit different every time we have one. All ages are welcome and it's a great way to get to know people in the congregation, with whom you might not cross paths otherwise.
A "no-stress" potluck, you can wow us with your culinary skills or pick up a loaf of bread and a tub of hummus. The point is to have fun together and not go hungry. We'll have decaf and tea available, plates and utensils.
We have lots of games at the ready, but feel free to bring the one you want to play. People have done jigsaw puzzles, played round-robin pingpong, Dominoes, Ticket to Ride, Rumikub, Azul, group card games, pictionary. There are generally several things happening at once. It's okay to come with a group of friends and the intention to play a particular game. You can bring children and play with them or have them play with childcare staff while you try out a game with an older crowd. Make it what you want!
Come for a little bit or the whole time; bring all your ages (and your inner child, too).

Camp Unirondack Information Session

If you are considering expanding your family's UU horizons beyond FUUSB, this is a chance for you to learn more. Elena will join us for worship and will be available during coffee hour in the Community Room. All are welcome! Did you know that Unirondack hosts adult retreats and programming, too? If you have attended Unirondack, please join Elena. It's always great to hear from Unirondack families directly. S'mores will be provided!

Climate Justice Team - Kickoff Meeting

A Climate Justice Team at First UU has been proposed. This (rescheduled) meeting will discuss the climate emergency facing us, the concept of climate justice, and the proposal to form a Climate Justice Team. A short film will be shown featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, UN Messenger of Peace for Climate, addressing the UN and describing his deep fear about the climate crisis. As he says toward the end of the film: "

Long before there were Unitarian Universalists, there were prayer beads! These beads are found in most cultures and religions across the world and come to us from antiquity. Join Faith Development Assistant Margo Whitcomb on Sunday, February 23 to learn about these diverse practices. After some grounding and focusing exercises for all ages, we will connect to this rich history by making our own sacred strands. Materials and snacks provided. No registration is necessary; just come and join us. Open to children, youth and adults directly following the Reflection for All Ages.

Wow, what a storm! This is just a friendly reminder that whenever we're experiencing wintry weather, please check the Society website:
www.uusociety.org to find out if there have been any changes to scheduling. If we close the office, cancel service, cancel meetings or events, it will be posted on our website, on our Facebook Page and in our Facebook Group. We will also do our best to send out emails, but we don't always know who is planning to attend an event. So please get in the habit of giving the website a quick check before you leave your home. Thank you!

If you have an announcement that you'd like to get to the congregation there are a number of options available:
1) Send your announcement to
[email protected] to have it included in the Order of Service. (50 word limit, Monday deadline)
to
have it included in one of the weekly eNews issues (Monday deadline).
3) We are also able to include three brief announcements in each Sunday service.
In our effort to keep the Sunday Service running smoothly and on time we ask that congregants choosing this third option keep the following guidelines in mind:
- Please keep your announcement short and sweet - about 30 seconds each.
- Whenever possible please make your request for an announcement early in the week before the Sunday service. Worship associates may need to decline requests that come in late (e.g., Saturday night or Sunday morning).
- When we get requests for more than three pulpit announcements, Worship Associates will decide on which announcements happen in any given week, trying to balance voices and needs of the whole congregation.
- Worship Associates present announcements during the service. One of the three announcements can also be presented by a "guest announcer."
- Guest announcers are asked to sit up front during the Welcome for a quick transition time.
- Worship Associates may ask to preview the text or content of the guest announcers, keeping time in mind.
- Email your announcement to that week's Worship Associate (listed in the eNews) and copy Rev. Tricia at [email protected]

Camping Trip

June camping trips may seem far removed from the icy cold of February, but it's not too early to start reserving sites for our annual FUUSB weekend at Elmore State Park!
It's taking place this year from Friday, June 12-Sunday, June 14.
Make your reservations in the loop of tent sites numbered 1-14 or the adjacent lean-tos. You can figure out the right site by looking at the park map. Four lean-tos and one tent site have already been reserved by First UUers!
We camp at Lake Elmore (just a few miles from Morrisville), and a bunch of FUUSB friends and families with kids of all ages come for a weekend of fun, eating, hiking, relaxing, fellowship, boating, swimming, games, and, often, a lovely worship on the beach. We meet on Friday evening for a potluck, which is fun and casual. All activities
are optional, and whatever level of joining-in works for your family is a good level.

Ways to Get Involved With JUMP

Become a volunteer:
- Once or twice a month for 3 hours a morning
- Join the JUMP Board: Board meets third Thursday of the month from 12:30-2 p.m.
Serve on a JUMP committee:
- Board Development - recruits volunteers and committee members, nominates officers
- Communications - explains JUMP activities to faith communities, organizations, & individuals
- Finance - creates the annual budget and monitors income and expenses during the year
- Fundraising - seeks ways to raise funds and conducts fundraising events
- Human Resources - oversees JUMP's staff and work-related activities
- Operations - oversees the drop-in center and client services
