A Year Into the Pandemic - Overcoming Uncertainty with Action
Dumas Wesley Community Center is proud to be part of a community that serves others! Over the past year, we’ve been comforted, encouraged, and humbled by the outpouring of generosity and support from our community. Remarkable people, organizations, churches, small businesses and corporations have all stepped up to help us continue our essential work. As we continue to navigate through this global crisis, we remain committed to serving our neighbors who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.
Community Partner Spotlight: The Synovus Bank Foundation
The Dumas Wesley Community Center is proud to announce that it has been awarded a grant from The Synovus Bank Foundation.

This gift will help bridge the gap between struggle and success, giving low-income families the vision, skills and opportunities to walk a transformative path and achieve their full potential.

Dumas Wesley is grateful to have the support of community partners like The Synovus Bank Foundation, who have stepped up to support Dumas Wesley's mission during the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, we are helping local residents become productive members of society and creating stronger neighborhoods where families can thrive.
After School Achievement Program Back in Full Swing
The After School Achievement Program (ASAP) has returned to its traditional five day a week programming for school-age children, while following recommended CDC guidelines. A few activities slated for the April calendar include: yoga, financial literacy and a variety of arts and crafts projects.

"I ride the bus to Dumas Wesley. I like it here because I get to participate in fun activities– but not until after my homework is done," said Jeremiah, ASAP participant (pictured at left).

The ASAP is open Monday-Friday from 3:00 - 5:30 p.m. Participants enjoy a daily meal, free tutoring, a variety of crafts, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) activities and special events. Applications for enrollment are available here.

Dumas Wesley will also open registration for its Summer Recreation Program beginning April 5th. The Summer Rec Program offers daily enrichment activities, STEAM workshops, arts and crafts and field trips for children ages 6 – 15. The program will operate from May 31st - July 23rd, 2021, Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Learn more here.
BBQ Meal Delivered to Homebound Seniors
Senior citizens in Dumas Wesley’s Senior Activities for Independent Living (SAIL) Program enjoyed a special meal from Saucy Q Bar B Que, thanks to a donation orchestrated by Ashland Place United Methodist Church.

"Ashland Place Missions Committee has worked hard during the trying times of COVID-19 to find local needs where we can make a difference," said Cammie Singleton, Chairman of the Ashland Place Missions Committee. "Our friends at Saucy Q Bar B Que agreed to come in early and prep their delicious BBQ chicken plates with baked beans, macaroni and cheese and banana pudding. We knew the seniors would enjoy the delicious treat! Dumas Wesley means so much to Ashland Place and it will always remain a special part of our outreach missions ministry," said Singleton.
