THIS SUNDAY'S SERVICE
REV. KAREN BUSH
Sunday, September 26 at 10:15 a.m. via Live-stream
We are only here but the blink of an eye in this life…on this water planet called earth, my friends.

Literally every one of the world’s major religions was born out of the passionate pleas of a single person crying out to those around them to do one thing. And it was Not what you might be thinking.

In the message this coming Sunday I will tell you a bit of what I surmise about this one thing. Some of what I learned has come from my own exploration, and that of others, of a cross section of the world religions over the years.

Some comes from being the sole student of an Australian Shaman for four years. A mind blowing, difficult, intense and profound experience.

And some has come out of my own experience as a human being on a life long quest since childhood seeking to understand what I am… what we all are... and why we are here on this planet.

I truly hope you will join us.

UPCOMING SUNDAY SERVICES
REV. SALLY FRITSCHE, JULIE LAUT AND CELIA BARBIERI
Sunday, October 3 at 10:15 a.m. via Live-stream

Reproductive rights are in the news, and our UU faith compels us to be part of this conversation. Abortion is more than a political football or an abstract moral conundrum, it is a lived reality and a visceral question of bodily autonomy for anyone capable of becoming pregnant. Join us this Sunday to hear reflections on the religious, historical, and lived realities behind the too often simplified "abortion debate." Rev. Sally will be joined in the pulpit by UUCUC members Julie Laut and Celia Barbieri. This service will lift up the importance of choice, trust, and listening to the voices of those most closely affected by the policies and norms we uphold.

If you have a personal experience connected to this topic, there is still time to share it if you choose. With your permission, part of all of your story could potentially be incorporated into the service, with identifying details removed. Rev. Sally will be the only person to read your submissions, made to associate-minister@uucuc.org, before Tuesday Sept 28.

We have had quite a few people respond to our (voluntary) vaccine registry. If you have not yet filled it out and want to, please go to this link. This will be helpful data for UUCUC's COVID-19 Advisory Group to review as they continue to discuss plans for reopening once the risk level for COVID-19 decreases. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS
OUR CARING CONGREGATION
JOYS AND SORROWS sent to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org for last Sunday, September 19, 2021.

From Sharon Neufer Emswiler: My sister Marcia Neufer Ruth, died unexpectedly after a very brief illness on Monday. She was the “big sister” who always seemed to enjoy having her “little sister” tag along with her when we were young. She was always my supporter, an encourager to me throughout my life. After my husband Tom, she was my best friend. Her death changes the world for me.

From Sandy Finnerty: A longtime friend has just chosen not to do aggressive treatment for cancer and has entered hospice. Although I fully support her decision, it is hard for me to face the death of a good friend.

From Karen Folk: A joy that my daughter is returning to her passion as a speech language pathologist working with deaf children after three hard years of breast cancer treatments, extended side effects, and mental illness.

From Karen Folk: A sorrow for my friend who has decided not to pursue more chemotherapy. Please keep her in your thoughts as she takes this last journey.

From Sandra Hannum: It was a joy to see Andrew Pritchard yesterday and hear that Sophie Meyn is doing very well after her surgery. This is great news.

From Jenny Hunt: Kristi and I were blessed to be married in this sanctuary 6 years ago today, September 19 by our new consulting minister Rev Karen Bush.

From Ellen Jacobsen: Spent a week in California watching a new granddaughter grow and develop surrounded by love. Welcome to the world Mari (sounds like sari) Tal. We will keep trying to make it a better place! Love from gramma Ellen Jacobsen

From Alice Mullan: My amazing scholarship at UIUC that covers tuition and housing, enabling me to live in a beautiful apartment in downtown Urbana.

From Alice Mullan: It’s my junior year and I still haven’t really found friends and community here.

From Cameron & Michelle Pitcel: Concern for Michelle’s mother who is stable but in the hospital with Covid.

From Cameron & Michelle Pitcel: Joy for celebrating 14 years of blissful marriage this week on the 22nd.

From Umeeta Sadarangani: This Sunday is 20 years since I first attended service at UUCUC; Marilyn came with me the next Sunday. And since then, this has been our spiritual home. We are very grateful for our church family.
Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.organy time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service. They will be read aloud.
