Did you know that mares can be imported with foals at their sides? The foals themselves do not need to undergo CEM testing (as long as they are under 2 years of age). A foal housing fee is simply added to the mare's quarantine fee. Please visit our website for current rates. Our staff are very experienced in foal handling and care and CEH is committed to providing a safe and positive experience for your youngster. We are also able to assist with submitting hair samples to the UC Davis Veterinary Genetics Laboratory for registration, parentage testing, coat color, and disease genetic testing while your foal is visiting. Q: What if my mare is in foal when she arrives in the U.S.?

A: For pregnant mares that go through our quarantine program, a veterinarian from the UC Davis Equine Reproduction Service performs a pregnancy check by ultrasound in place of a cervical culture. All other swab samples are taken as usual. Our technicians are specially trained and have extensive experience; the swab process only takes about 5 minutes and every effort is made to ensure your horse’s comfort.
