The Makawao History Museum is currently in the research phase of a new exhibit set to open in early 2020.
We are reaching out to you, our Ohana, for photos, wooden items that were carved at the Olinda Prison woodcraft shop, or things with the name of the prison embossed on it. Old images with charts, drawings, or other items that can be identified to be from the prison would be of great value to our team. Old stationary or paper documents, and old letters to/from inmates would also be beneficial.
These items will help us give a rich narrative for visitors and locals of the Prison and the daily life of those who were imprisoned and worked there. Please reach out to us if you have an item you'd be willing to loan or story to share at info@makawaomuseum.org or to our Executive Director Morris Haole at (808) 446-1606.
