Our world has changed drastically over the past month and we've been working hard to provide safe shelter to individuals and families in need. Our top priority has always been the safety of our staff, clients and volunteers and we've taken significant steps to ensure their safety throughout the COVID-19 outbreak.

Our Neat Repeats stores have been closed through at least April 7th, all volunteer shifts have been cancelled, the majority of our employees have been working from home, and we have transitioned to a limited, on-site schedule for essential staff. We've had our facilities professionally deep-cleaned and we are highlighting the importance of social distancing and adhering to CDC hygiene guidelines.

We have successfully relocated clients who were living at our shelter and this past week was a whirlwind of collecting, sorting and distributing donations to families who were moving out of our emergency shelter to transitional and temporary housing.

Thanks to your generous support, our immediate needs have been met and all of our clients have been safely moved. (The photos above were taken after the first day of our donation drive!)

We have received a number of inquiries from people who would like to donate, however, at this time, we cannot accept additional physical donations. Our needs are frequently changing and we will communicate future needs via e-mail and through our social media outlets.

Special Thanks

We are blessed to have so many individuals and groups help us on a regular basis, but during the last several weeks we have reached out with our needs and our pleas have been answered by several groups who have gone above and beyond.

The Kitchen Witches have supported the Crisis Center and clients who have moved on to transitional housing for several years. This group of dedicated women stocks the kitchens in our Transitional Housing apartments with everything from dishes and silverware to crock pots and coffee makers. They always leave a special message for the new families moving in. This past week, the group stocked three kitchens for families who were moving to the safety of their own apartments.

Troop 46, a group of working women from the New Lenox area also answered the call and shipped countless items like towels, shower curtains, hampers and more.

Finally, we want to thank the Gifts for Hope organization who not only provided the funding to purchase discounted mattresses from our partner, Darvin Furniture, but also donated all of the bedding for families moving out.

Every wish list item was checked off thanks to these groups, family and friends of staff, and many of you! We are forever grateful.





Community Fundraisers Help Meet Needs

 
Mark Moylan, who runs State Farm on Oak Park Avenue in Tinley Park, raised $4,000 for the Crisis Center through his annual Triathlon community fundraiser! He is an amazing local leader who realizes how important it is to help in a unique and different way, especially considering the challenges we continue to face during this time of isolation and uncertainty. Thank you, Team Triathlon!!!
 
The Morgan Stanley Independent Women's Group also held a drive for needed items and collected monetary donations. Crisis Center Board member, Tobbie Walter of Morgan Stanley, helped coordinate this effort.

Annual Auxiliary Luncheon Rescheduled
The Crisis Center for South Suburbia Annual Spring Luncheon has been rescheduled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The new date is Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Palos Country Club from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
$45 ticket includes lunch and the program, 'Girls Like Us', remains the same.

Neat Repeats Resale remains closed until at least April 7th, 2020. We have heard from many loyal shoppers who have shown their support and we certainly miss you too! 

Our staff and volunteers are excited to get back to work as soon as it is safe to return to business.
