A YEAR FOR CHANGE!
Hello Friends of HYC,

We are only two weeks into the New Year and have already experienced some unimaginable events. The recent acts of violence and assault on our nation's Capital and the continuous rise and record-number cases of deaths and positive COVID-19 cases are certainly not making 2021 any easier than 2020. Together, we must continue to stay positive and have hope for a year of healing and change. We have to work together to bring light to darkness and love to hate. We all deserve to live in an equal, fair, unbiased, kind, truthful world filled with hope and compassion for our future and our children's future. Sometimes the world seems so dark it's hard to imagine the light to come, but we have to persevere and never give up or give in to the darkness that can surround us. HYC is continuously working to ensure that the community we serve have the information and tools they need to get through difficult and challenging times. We are always looking at ways to assist our families better as these world events are happening around us. They can weigh heavy on many and be hard to understand. Our efforts as an agency are always to be aware of how these events may affect many of our clients' already strained situations and help them through it. Our clients and community are, first and foremost, our priority during a crisis.

As we approach the Martin Luther King (MLK), Jr. holiday on Monday, January 18, 2021, let's remember his words and what he stood for. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a courageous man who fought for ALL people to have equal rights and be treated fairly through non-violent protests and peaceful marches. He bravely stood up for social injustice and those who could not have a voice. MLK Day is recognized as a national day of service to give back or volunteer to help your community. Although COVID-19 has impacted some of the activities that can occur, there are still some virtual ones to participate in safely. Here are a few options to choose from:

As we approach this new year and the days ahead, let's remember a few words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. May they keep you inspired and hopeful for the future.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

"True peace is not merely the absence of tension;
it is the presence of justice."

"I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant."
