Village Recognizes First Responders at 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
Village President Bill Jacob spoke during the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony that took place on September 11, hosted by the Village and the Long Grove Fire Protection District. First responders, elected officials and area residents were in attendance.
BSA Girls Troop 1490 posted the colors at the Remembrance Ceremony held outside the Long Grove Fire Protection District station. The event included the ringing of the fire bell in honor of those who were lost and never found resulting from the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The Village Is Seeking Volunteers!
The Village is always in need of residents who want to volunteer their skills and time. While there are regular long-term volunteer positions on the Village’s commissions and committees, short-term opportunities to serve the Village may become available such as an ad hoc committee or other ways to serve the community. If you are interested, click on this link to fill out a volunteer form, which can be submitted electronically or emailed to Sherry Shlagman at the Village Hall. Get involved and have your name added to the volunteer list!
Downtown Construction Projects to Begin Soon
The project to build a multi-use pathway along Robert Parker Coffin Road is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 28. The pathway will run from Old McHenry Road to Route 83 and includes installing a crosswalk to connect the downtown with Sunset Grove Shopping Center. The project is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving, weather permitting.

The Stempel Parking Lot rehabilitation project is scheduled to begin Monday, October 4 and expected to be completed by early November, weather permitting. The project includes resurfacing the entire parking lot, creating two-way traffic in both entrances, increasing the number of parking spots and installing underground conduits for future electric vehicle charging stations.
Free Daffodil Bulbs Available Starting Week of October 11
As it does every year, the Village is giving away free daffodil bulbs to residents for planting along the public roads and right-of-ways. Planting bulbs is a fall tradition that was initiated by former Village President Robert Parker Coffin and his wife Betty, and is a way for residents to pitch in their time to help maintain Long Grove’s beauty for years to come.

There are two types available: Dutch Master, a yellow bloom, or Fragrant Meadow, a mixture of yellow and white flowers. If you would like a bag of bulbs, please email Sherry Shlagman or call 847-634-9440. Please indicate your name and your choice of bulbs. The bag will be marked with your name and set outside near the entrance to Village Hall for you to pick up at your convenience.
