Helping Children Navigate Life with Mindfulness and Movement
Attend "Helping Children Navigate Life with Mindfulness and Movement" virtual training on Thursday, August 25, 2022 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The training is developed for anyone caring for a child. Come explore and learn from Margaret Ross, LCSW, and school-based mental health therapist as she shares her passion for connection with children. She will discuss the connection between the physical body, mind, and emotions. Attendees will gain an understanding of the importance of normalizing strong emotions for children and helping them improve their feelings of self-efficacy in utilizing regulation strategies. The training will also demonstrate ways to make mindfulness, relaxation, and healthy movement techniques fun and accessible for children.

Learning Objectives:
- Describe the function/purpose of emotions, discuss how to declassify feelings as “good” or“bad”
- Understand the significance of building healthy coping skills from a young age
- Define mindfulness and explain how it can influence children’s emotional development
- Identify and describe age-appropriate mindfulness and movement techniques such as breathing exercises, muscle relaxation, yoga poses and games, and gratitude exploration

About the Presenter:
Margaret Ross, LCSW
Margaret is a school-based mental health therapist at Fruitville Elementary and a master’s level clinician pursuing clinical social work licensure. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Florida State University and previously worked in a hospital setting helping individuals cope with severe and persistent mental illness. Margaret has experience providing both Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and incorporates components of positive psychology. She is also a Certified ChildLight Instructor with training in yoga and mindfulness for children. Margaret has facilitated group and individual yoga classes for children ages 5-12 and hopes to increase awareness of the role that mindfulness and healthy movement have in developing children’s coping skills and resilience.
