Special Guest Speaker

T/Sgt. Charles Harber

Dinner starts at 7.p.m.

Charlie Harper was born on July 19, 1920 in a small town near Abilene, Texas. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in February 1942 only two months after the attack on Pearl Harbor. After aircraft mechanic training in Lubbock, Texas and Tucson, Arizona he took a train to Fort Dix, New Jersey. After seven days on ship crossing the North Atlantic, he arrived at the 306 th Bomb Group at Thurleigh, England which was about 50 miles North of London. There he was an aircraft mechanic on the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress until December 1945.

While in England he met Irene, a 22-year old British girl, at a dance. They were married on October 21, 1944 and she became an official "War Bride." After the war Charlie and Irene moved to the Bay Area of California and he worked for United Airlines for 30 years. The Harbers raised four boys and one girl. Irene died in 1990 and Charlie married his present wife Jeanie. They moved to Templeton in 2009 and Charlie has been a very valuable member of the museum's restoration crew.

Estrella Warbirds Museum presented the inaugural "Top Flight Golf Scramble" at Paso Robles Golf Club on Saturday, June 25, 2016 to benefit the museum. Golfers took to the links on a beautiful Summer morning following a briefing by Director of Golf, Mike Brabenec, PGA - PRGC and an 8:30am shotgun start.

The tournament was the result of months of planning by EWM Fundraising Department members: Mike Levine, Betty Miller, Sue Dollemore, Margi Bauer, and Jill Thayer. Event volunteers included: Steve Lochen, Peter Snyder, Karen Flynn, Barbara Lochen, James Messineo, and Jerry Jones.

Top Flight Golf Scramble was advertised regionally with Save-the-Date fliers, a brochure, an ad in the SLO Tribune, public service announcements on local media, an e-flier with Paso Robles Chamber of Commerce, web and social media, and word-of-mouth.

Golfers enjoyed an 18-hole round of golf with cart, box lunches, hors 'd oeuvres, refreshments, a commemorative cap, tournament prizes, and a great day of fun.

If you haven't been to the museum in a while, there's been a whole lotta changing going on!

One of the areas that has grown and matured tremendously over the past year, is the Woodland Auto Display. Dick and Claudia Woodland have put an extensive amount of planning, labor and materials into the auto display, and it shows!  We are proud of their work and their choice to make Estrella Warbird Museum their home.  The Woodland Auto Display has drawn visitors from around the world, including numerous famous faces and characters from the automotive and racing world.

If you have not visited the museum or visited the Woodland Auto Display on our website, you owe it to yourself to spend some time checking it out.  Much has changed and been updated.  Click on the picture below to take you directly to the site.
