Virtual Events Group

A tech solution that has a great interface and an enticing value proposition but fails to move your organization toward realizing a better, consolidated, high-quality data store that can be mined for strategic value is not a tech solution you should pursue.

Magical Moments Redux

For those of you who missed our last Town Hall, you can relive the moments of magic. Roberta Scherf, Co-founder of CalmConnect from PrioHealth, had us all performing a series of body movements to music. The point of the exercise was to increase calm, focus, and clarity, and to help transition between the start of one activity and another. CalmConnect is mainly used with students, and in person, but we found that using it with our Zoom audience had tremendous impact. Watch us here

Analyzing Data from Digital Events

The Zombie phenomena is what happens when your virtual attendee lingers with an open window long after your meeting is over. They probably were never there in the first place. It’s phenomenons like the Zombie that prompted us to invite Glenn Hansen, President and CEO of BPA Worldwide, Robyn Davis, and David Richardson to present the BPA’s digital event data certification program, RSDE (Reporting Standards for Digital Events). RSDE provides a unified framework for collecting, analyzing, and using data from digital events. Whether you’re a planner, exhibitor, or event sponsor this is important stuff. All of the materials are free to download.

Digital Twin Universities

In the latest excuse for not showing up for class, you can send your avatar. A metaverisity is a digital twin of a real-life campus. Students can learn in virtual settings using avatars and headsets. It's a new pilot program across 10 universities. The headsets and gear are being funded by Meta (Facebook’s parent), the curriculum technology comes from Engage Education, an Irish company that has produced virtual-reality experiences, and the UI is designed by VictoryXR. Participating institutions include University of Maryland Global Campus, Morehouse College, University of Kansas School of Nursing, New Mexico State University, South Dakota State University, and others representing a diverse mix of campuses. Increasingly, using the metaverse as a learning center is being studied by academics and the results are promising. And, for some universities, programs like this may ultimately be less expensive, more attractive to students and help the schools keep their doors open.

Give your Powerpoint a Cameo
Few things make you look worse than a virtual presentation with either your postage stamp Powerpoints or tiny windows of your face alongside your presentation. With cameo you can insert your live camera feed directly on a PowerPoint slide. Then you can apply the same effects to your camera feed as you can to a picture or other object, including formatting, transitions, and styles. The feature will be rolling out to Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 subscribers.

Caption: cameo let’s you combine your camera feed with your Powerpoint presentation in Microsoft Teams.

ExpoPlatform Thinks Community
Over and over again we’re hearing that an event can’t be a one-and-done moment. It needs the care and feeding of an engaged community. ExpoPlatform has a nice download that looks at the blueprint for this process.

Kids and NFTs
In July we’ll be exploring this topic at our monthly meetup. Meanwhile, if you or your kids ever collected Hot Wheels, Pogs, Magic Cards, or Barbies, then you can relate to how they’ll think about NFTs. Hot new toy companies like Ziggazoo, Invisible Universe, Toymint, Encantos and Toikido have adopted the tech and are banking on the promise of utility, value and ownership for consumers. And stalwarts like Hasbro and Mattel have also been dabbling in the NFT marketplace. Read up on this phenomena on KidScreen.

TikTok Gets Avatars
Following the all-avatar, all-the-time trend, TikTok has introduced its own avatars. To get started, open the TikTok app and search for the Avatar effect. From there, you'll be able to customize your Avatar to fit your preferences. Once you start recording video your avatar mimics your motion.
