Your Community Brief from Oak Ridge High School

I hope that this edition finds you having enjoyed a successful start to the month of February. We are now already more than halfway through this third quarter of 2019-2020 and the annual state assessments will not be too far off. This is one reason why we continue to run the tutoring information in these issues as we encourage any of our Pioneers needing extra help to participate. If this applies to you or your student, please take advantage of the tutoring as soon as possible.
We need to have at least a 20% success rate with our 2020 Parent/Guardian survey for the combined results to be really meaningful. If you have a student attending Oak Ridge and still have not shared your opinions in this short survey, please do so now. While the results are kept anonymous, the combined parent/guardian findings help to shape our school improvement efforts so your help is greatly needed. Thank you.

Plan ahead Class of 2020!

No Early Release Wednesdays
Plan Ahead - No Early Dismissal Wednesdays: March 4, April 1 and May 6
Mark your calendars now - in order for all students to complete their SAT or FSA tests without concern for running out of time, all OCPS
students will be scheduled for a full school day instead of the normal early dismissal on three Wednesdays: March 4, April 1, and May 6, 2020.

Last day to purchase a ticket at $60 is Friday, February 14th - prices go up on Tuesday, February 18th.

Girls Empowerment Summit
This summit will educate, inspire, and empower young women in grades 8-12. Mark your calendars, you won't want to miss it! It's never too early to plan ahead!

Multicultural Festival
Thursday, Feb. 19th
You won't want to miss this fun and educational festival. Come celebrate all different cultures, enjoy music, dance, and food. Dress to impress in attire representing your culture! See you there! Thursday, February 19th.

Student Government Association in the Community
SGA members visited February 4th's Belle Isle Town Hall meeting. Students volunteered to attend. The idea was to watch government in motion and to offer to help with projects of concern with the community.

L.I.F.E. Fashion Flow Fridays
Watch out for posts on the L.I.F.E. Instagram page about Fashion Flow Fridays. Each Friday dress to impress in the color of the day and participate in photo sessions, runway contest, and best outfit contest.
The culminating FASHION FLOW SHOW will take place on February 28th in the auditorium at 6:00PM.

Doug Scott Leadership Award Winner - Malachi Young
Congratulations to our very own
Malachi Young for winning the Doug Scott Leadership Award! Malachi was recognized as the ORHS football player of the 2019 season for his outstanding Christian leadership with the most integrity, intensity and desire on and off the field!
At the Citrus Bowl breakfast. Malachi, along with a few other selected area players, received the prestigious Doug Scott Leadership Award presented by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
We are proud of you!

The Orlando Magic hosted their annual Magic of Mentoring Youth Summit at the Amway Center. The focus was on integrity, influence, and image! Afterwards, we attended the Orlando Magic versus the Boston Celtics basketball game!

The year 2020 means reaching new heights! So, we took our Vision Boards digital to focus on goals, growth and prosperity!
