Together We Can Change Hunger & Homelessness
As Thanksgiving approaches, many people in America reflect on the reasons for which they’re thankful. The holiday is also an appropriate time to show one’s appreciation by donating time, attention and resources to those less fortunate.
Please join Catholic Charities in honoring
National Hunger & Homeless Awareness week, Nov. 15-22, 2020.
Catholic Charities Food Assistance Programs provide low-income families with monthly food distributions, and emergency food packages to households that find themselves in crisis. On average, over 700 food packages, totaling over 10,000 pounds of food, are distributed each month.
Each year, Catholic Charities Shelter Services provides a temporary home to approximately 130 men, women, and newborns through our two shelters, our adult shelter Casa San Francisco and our residential maternity program Bayard House. Both programs provide accommodations and three daily meals as well as case management support to help each resident to obtain income, find affordable housing options, and secure permanent housing. Bayard House residents also receive guidance in prenatal, postnatal, and infant care as well as parenting education.
The Rapid Rehousing Service of our Basic Needs Program helps to reestablish permanent residences for persons who have experienced a recent period of homelessness, providing them with financial assistance and case management expertise to avoid future problems. The Homeless Prevention Service works with clients who are at risk of losing housing because of a financial disruption.

"Every person deserves to live without worrying whether they will have food
on their plate or a roof over their head. Far too many people are forced to make hard choices between paying for food, housing and other critical expenses."
- Richelle Vible, Executive Director of Catholic Charities

Tax Credits Available Through the Neighborhood Assistance Act
|
Tax credits are still available for qualified donations through the Neighborhood Assistance Act (NAA). The program encourages businesses and individuals who pay Delaware state income taxes to invest in programs serving impoverished neighborhoods or serving low- and moderate-income families.
Donations to three of Catholic Charities programs will qualify a donor for 2020 tax credits:
Basic Needs, Bayard House, and Casa San Francisco.
Donors must meet the minimum contribution amounts: $2,500 for individuals, and $10,000 for business. In exchange for a qualified contribution, the NAA provides state tax credits equal to 50% of the investment. Credits are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
For more information on the NAA Program, please call the Catholic Charities Community Relations office at 302-655-9634.
