Personal Care Services Now Allowed to Operate Outdoors
|
The State of California released new guidance this week that allows personal care services to begin outdoor operations, including hair salons, barbershops, skincare, cosmetology, nail services, and massage therapy.
To assist local businesses, the City of Folsom offers temporary outdoor business permits. Hair salons, barbershops and personal care businesses wishing to use public or shared outdoor property must apply for a temporary outdoor business permit to use outdoor areas such as parking lots, sidewalks, or common areas. Personal care businesses located on standalone private property do not need a temporary outdoor business permit.

Broder Family Homestead Park Now Open
|
The City of Folsom is pleased to announce that Broder Family Homestead Park, 1215 Harvest Loop (off East Natoma Street), is now open to the public. Due to current public health directives that restrict gatherings, a grand opening and dedication ceremony has been postponed.
The park is located on property that was once part of the expansive Broder Family Ranch, which was established in the mid-1800s. The five-acre property for the park was generously gifted to the City by Vera Broder-Silberstein, who spent part of her childhood on the ranch in the 1930s and ‘40s. It was her wish that the park would honor the pioneering and ranching life of the Broder family, Native American cultures of the Folsom area, and early California pioneers.
The family-friendly passive park includes a grove of 74 historic olive trees, a vineyard and orchard, covered picnic area, kiddie corral play area with farm animal sculptures, horseshoe pits, walks and pathways, and a raised platform area for future outdoor classroom use. Granite blocks and rock retaining walls from historic structures on the original Broder ranch were salvaged and reused for retaining walls and seat walls within the park.
Park visitors are asked to refrain from harvesting from the vineyard and orchard – the grapevines and fruit trees are still in the process of establishing healthy root systems and new growth. Folsom Parks & Recreation is seeking community stewards or groups to assist with seasonal harvesting at the park; call 916-461-6684 for more information and to volunteer.

Trees are a beautiful asset to Folsom’s neighborhoods, increasing in value as they age and providing shade, habitat for wildlife, and helping to clean the air. The City of Folsom maintains a pruning and maintenance cycle in the Landscape and Lighting Districts to help ensure the health and longevity of all the trees. Tree maintenance work started July 6 and continues through the end of the month. Some partial lane closures or lane shifts may be in effect at various times throughout the project.
Tree maintenance work will take place in these areas between 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday:
- July 20-28 – Willow Springs: Iron Point Road and McAdoo Drive
Folsom residents who would like free wood chips for their landscape may
email
the project contractor to be put on a list; the wood chips are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For general questions about the L&L tree maintenance project, contact
