Academic Success Tips for Online Learning
Connect with Your Peers and Instructor(s)
Interactions with your peers and your instructor are critical to you having a positive, engaging experience. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from your instructor or classmates.

Understand the Expectations
Your course will be either synchronous (at a specific time, requiring you to be online with the rest of your classmates) or, it will be asynchronous, where you are provided the materials and can learn on your own time. Whichever method your course is delivered through, be sure you understand the expectations and hold yourself accountable for the work you need to complete.

Manage Time Wisely
Online instruction gives you a lot of flexibility in terms of when you study, but for each course, it is important to schedule time in your personal calendar to study and complete assignments. Use the schedule you had for your in-person courses as your guide for your online schedule.

Establish a Good Workspace
Find a quiet place with a good internet connection, access to power and freedom from distractions. Let friends and family know you are unavailable during your class and study times.

Stay Organized
Organize your files in a way that makes sense to you. Keep a copy of anything you submit in the event that a technology problem requires you to resubmit it—even discussion posts. Take good notes while you are reading or watching online lectures just as you would in your campus classes.

Academic Support
Academic Skills

They provide academic support services through classes and other learning assistance programs. This spring Academic Skills and The Writers' Room is offering a variety of in-person and virtual learning assistance options. Face Coverings
While on the USI campus or University-owned and -operated facilities, students, faculty, staff, contractors, vendors and visitors are required to wear face coverings when in buildings, including in classrooms, hallways, lounges, restrooms and all other spaces. Face coverings must also be worn in outdoor areas where physical distancing is not possible. Face coverings are not required in private offices or when in a space alone. Face coverings can be removed for dining, but they should be worn as soon as finished.

If you have not received your USI face covering, you may pick it up at the Dean of Students Office in University Center East in Fireside Lounge, room 1229. Please bring your Eagle Access Card.

COVID Resources
Check out the timeline for quarantine after exposure to COVID-19.

Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19, or who has been exposed to someone with COVID-19, should fill out the self-reporting form, remain off campus and contact their primary care physician for evaluation.

On-campus COVID-19 testing is available for USI students at the former Children’s Learning Center (not the University Health Center). View COVID-19 Testing information.
