This Sunday: Mother's Day Walk for Peace

8 AM Fields Corner, Dorchester (6 mile walk),  OR
9:30 AM Roxbury Crossing (3 mile walk)

The  King's Chapel Mother's Day Walk team is very close to  meeting our goal of being a 2018 Peace Advocate for the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, and raising 2,500 dollars to support their work for peace.

This week we hit the Community Action Committee matching grant of 1,000 dollars, and currently have 2,055 raised!

Can you help us cross the finish line? Please consider donating, walking, or both and joining the efforts of the Community Action Committee and the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute.

The Mother's Day Walk for Peace supports the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, which  promotes healing, teaching, and learning for families and communities impacted by murder, grief, trauma, and loss. The heart of their work is with families on both sides impacted by murder.

Details:
THIS Sunday, May 13, 2018 -  Wear Purple!

6 Mile Walk:
8:00 AM -  (1520 Dorchester Ave.)
King's Chapel team members will gather at Town Field Park at  8:00 AM  for a short program and a 6 mile walk.
Jim Power is the contact person for those completing the 6 mile walk.

3 Mile Walk:
9:30 AM -  Madison Park High School
Amanda Pickett is the contact person for those completing the 3 mile walk.

We will participate in the walk almost to the very end, which is at Government Center/City Hall Plaza but will peel off at King's Chapel in time for the   11:00 AM  Morning Prayer service.

From the Minister: Do You Love or Hate Mother's Day?
Sunday will be shaped by your past, because it will be Mother's Day. Either you'll have good feelings about the one who mothered you or trenchant pain; either warm memories of how your own children honored you, or a desire to slash through the date on the calendar, putting it quickly behind you.

No feelings are more intense than those about family. We were so young once. They were so young once, too.

If Mother's Day chills you, I have a suggestion. The Day can be transformed -- resurrected -- by walking alongside Boston mothers whose children were murdered. By simply showing up, you'll offer them your support and love. You don't need to share any words, although you can. You need not join the King's Chapel Team, although you're all invited.

However you participate in the Mother's Day March for Peace, you'll be stunned by the joy of it -- the surprise and delight first time marchers discover, being part of something far bigger than ourselves. Together, we can bear more pain. Together, we can muster hope.

Jesus sent his followers out into the world with the prayer that "they all may be one," as he and God are one. As a mother and child are one through a pregnancy. As we unite as one, each Sunday, across our differences, to worship the best Uniter. Come join us to worship this One, with all those who have marched for peace.

From the History Program

Today, May 10, 2018 marks the 200th anniversary of Paul Revere's death at age 83 in 1818. As home to the largest Revere & Son bell, King's Chapel participated in the city's commemoration of Revere's life and legacy. Staff members ran the bell at the end of a wreath-laying ceremony held at Revere's grave in the Granary Burying Ground, just down the street from the chapel.
From the Church School
On Sunday, the Church School Committee met to discuss changes to our program. Starting in the Fall, we are adding a Confirmation class in which Middle School students will have the opportunity to learn more about King's Chapel's history and traditions. We are putting together inter-generational activities that will provide our families with opportunities to learn and grow together. There are only a few Sundays left in our program before Summer begins. Join us to see where your talents might help guide our young ones as we plan for next year.

From the Bench

The choral anthems for Ascension  Sunday are high Anglican at its finest, by Stanford and Finzi.  Robert Schumann originally wrote his Sketches, opus 58, for pedal piano - those are hard to find these days (see below!), but the pieces work well on organ as well.

Accessibility Assists

Our beautiful Georgian sanctuary designed by Peter Harrison and completed in 1754, has been lovingly maintained by the congregation since its completion. One of the box pews has been made wheel-chair accessible. Ushers are available to assist those who are wheelchair-bound to that pew.

A sound system has been installed in the sanctuary of The Chapel to amplify the sound during worship services. Hearing assistance devices are available for your use. Please see an Usher for assistance.
