Bloomington Bookfest!
Bloomington Bookfest 2020 was a huge success! We counted over 600 people attending this year's event, which was held on February 29th (Leap Day).

Our featured speakers included children book authors Nancy Carlson, Douglas Wood and KARE-11 Meteorologist Belinda Jensen, author of the Bel the Weather Girl series of books (pictured right).

Bloomington Public Schools Elementary Media Directors created several reading-themed rooms for families to visit and participate in activities. Whether children were reading in a tent at Camp Read S'more or weaving on a frame at "Weave" Got Books!" , participants had a great time checking out all the room activities.
Summer SLAM Camp vendors, (like Soccer Shots pictured right) were stationed at tables throughout Oak Grove Middle School. Families were able to visit and view options for their children's summer activities schedule. Additionally, families could pick up resource material from several Bloomington and Hennepin County organizations.
Early Learning Services sponsored two rooms where infants, toddlers, and their parents could experience what fun it is to be in a BPS Preschool or ECFE program. The "Early Registration for Preschool" table was busy registering 3 and 4 year-olds for Preschool.
Special guests at this year's Bloomington Bookfest included the Oak Grove Middle School cast of the musical "Frozen" . Children were thrilled to see Anna, Elsa, and the gang. Barnes & Noble offered "Frozen" books for sale, which were autographed by the cast.
Several costumed characters joined us again at this year's event. Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Cookie Monster, Elmo, Kermit the Frog, and Baby Shark enjoyed meeting the families in attendance.
Bloomington Community Education would like to thank our volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who participated in or attended Bloomington Bookfest 2020. See you in 2021!
