HUGE THANKS to all of the families who came out on Tuesday for the viewing of the documentary "Screenagers."  Our kids continue to need monitoring and guidance on how technology can be something really good if used properly and something really bad if used inappropriately.  I hope that those who attended will continue the conversation with your friends and neighbors to ultimately help our students navigate this ever-changing online world.  I have attached the parent guide that comes with the video if you need additional resources.  Also, here are the follow up questions asked of the kids after they watched the student version of the "Screenagers."

Kudos to the following students for participating last weekend in the CMS Honors Chorus: John Harris, Jordan Page, Ava Lucibello, Juliana Bushey, Samantha VanDyke, Ema Cocar, Kelly Ramirez, Harrison DeGeorge, Fiona Jones, Elizabeth Bothwell, Taylor Greunke, Maddy Roman, Oriana Cortes Luligo  Special Kudos to Maddie Roman for participating in the CMS Honors Chorus Solo and Ensemble, receiving a score of Excellent.

Congrats to Ashley Ratiram, named as Mrs. Riess' Art classes "Leader of the Month" for February.

If you missed the special edition on Tuesday, we ask that parents complete a short survey about our Leader In Me program.  Gathering this feedback is part of our Leader In Me Lighthouse Certification Process.  This survey should take you no more than a few minutes to complete and we greatly appreciate your feedback.  http://www.leaderinme.com/s/bailey-middle-nc/parent

If your 7th or 8th grader is attending the dance tomorrow night, please arrive for pick-up by 9:15 pm or before.  We ask for you to be patient and follow normal car rider procedures as we load 500+ students safely.  Students are permitted to leave early, but the same rules will apply as parents will not be permitted to come in to the dance to get their student...we will have adults locating them or you can text your student when you arrive.

Create a Great Day,

"Leader In Me" For Families

Working to infuse the 7 Habits at home doesn't have to be an elaborate design that involves months of planning and in depth studying of each habit.  It can be as simple as having a conversation, hearing each other, then choosing whether the conversation is heading in a healthy positive way or if it is not.  If it is not, it could be as simple as taking a break or a timeout, giving you and your student time to regroup and come back and be more Proactive with your communication.

Middle school is the time when emotions run hot.  It could be a simple question about homework or a friend that sends teens off on a tailspin of intense emotions that leave you, the parent, confused, and possibly frustrated or upset as well.  If this sounds familiar then consider the attached activity as a strategy for working with these emotional ups and downs and as a way to be more Proactive when faced with these tense situations.

Sincerely,
