December 2020

Dear Parent(s):

Jewish summer camps and trips to Israel provide wonderful opportunities for your child (children) to enhance their Jewish learning and experiences and establish and nurture Jewish friendships. Adath Jeshurun offers scholarships to recognize service to the Congregation through Shabbat Morning Program, B’Yachad or in other approved service to the Congregation. We also assist families with the costs of these programs through Financial Aid at Ramah, Herzl and Camp Chi (and other approved Jewish camps) as well as Programs in Israel from June, 2021 through May, 2022. Scholarships are awarded by the Adath Jeshurun Foundation Dedicated Scholarship Funds. Award letters are typically sent in late Spring.

New this year, Scholarship and Financial Aid applications, along with the Parent letter and Scholarship Policies will be available online. The applications are available to complete online at www.adathjeshurun.org or you may call the Adath office for paper forms.

Scholarship applicants must already be registered to attend the camp or Israel Program before applying for a Scholarship or Financial Aid.

There are three categories of MERIT scholarships, along with financial aid for those who qualify:
INCENTIVE AWARDS: For those who will be post Bar/Bat Mitzvah by June 2021 and who will enter 9th grade or below in the fall of 2021.

SERVICE AWARDS: For those students entering grades 10-12 in the fall of 2021 who are regular, active participants in the Shabbat Morning Program, B’Yachad or in other approved ways. To be eligible for awards, students must have fulfilled the attendance requirements of the SMP program.

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARDS: For those students who will be entering grades 11 and 12 in the fall of 2021, who are regular, active participants in the Shabbat Morning Program, B’Yachad or in other approved ways who have fulfilled the SMP Program attendance requirements, and, in addition, have shown exceptional commitment and leadership and given outstanding service to the congregation.

Parents may apply for financial aid, available for those who need additional financial help over and above that provided by the merit awards. Priority will be given to applicants who have had their Bar/Bat Mitzvah by June 2021. Financial aid applications are confidential and applicants are asked to explain financial need and provide a copy of their most recent IRS 1040. In order to qualify for financial aid, dues obligation to the Adath must also be current or a payment plan in place.

Note: In the event that Jewish summer camps and Programs in Israel are cancelled because of the pandemic, no scholarship distributions will be made. Also, scholarship funds for last years’ summer camps and Programs in Israel which were not distributed due to the pandemic, remain in the Adath Foundation and will not be awarded retroactively for last year.

Best regards,

Jan Frisch, Scholarship Chair           612-834-3075
