January was a month of momentum and forward-thinking. COVID-19 vaccines began rolling out in our state and The Arc was fortunate that many of our staff members and people living in our group homes were offered the opportunity to get vaccinated during Phase 1. As an organization rooted in a commitment to empower and support people with disabilities and their families, people's health and safety have been and will remain our top priority. We believe that vaccination provides a critical opportunity to support people and their families in their fight against Covid-19, and we are pleased that people were offered the chance to receive the vaccine. Please stay tuned for more information regarding opportunities for vaccination and visit our website to access important information and resources.
With vaccines on the horizon for the rest of our family and for the community at large, we’re engaged in active planning for the reopening of our Archways and Pathways Community-Based Day Supports and Employment Supports day services. Stay tuned for more information. We’re excited to be the first organization to have rolled out in our region the Individualized Day Support model, a model rooted in self-direction. You will find more details on this groundbreaking service below.
We’re excited to announce that our home in Sandwich, supporting people with acquired brain injuries, finally opened this month. This is our fourth home supporting people with an acquired brain injury and we're thrilled to continue expanding our services on the Cape.
I would like to take a moment to acknowledge how incredible and truly inspirational our parents and family members supporting their loved ones at home, in addition to our Adult Family Care caregivers and our Shared Living caregivers, have been throughout this pandemic. You’ve met the challenge of limited in-home and respite supports due to COVID-19 head-on and with kindness, patience, and flexibility - demonstrating true commitment to supporting and empowering people with disabilities.
With continued optimism for brighter days ahead,
Mary Valachovic
Executive Director
