NET PROVIDER SCORE
UCSF WORK EXPERIENCE SURVEY 2021
please complete the survey by: APRIL 16, 2021

This survey is intended for APPs at all settings of UCSF Health and Benioff Children's Hospitals (primary care APPs will participate in the STEP survey conducted by their division in lieu of NPS). The NPS survey will help us garner a representation of how we are doing as an organization at this point in time.
Please note: this survey is different than the Gallup Engagement survey which will be completed by all employees this spring.
When completing the survey be sure to choose your primary clinical practice site and service of practice, recognizing smaller practices are collapsed into one larger group.  As you respond, consider both your experience in your everyday work at UCSF Health as well as how you are feeling regarding well-being overall. Your input will help build on what is working and will drive further improvements over the upcoming year.
This survey takes 10 minutes to complete and
will remain open through April 16, 2021
Please know your responses are anonymous and de-identified and the results will be reported in aggregate to preserve your anonymity. Your individual demographics will not be reported with your responses where there are less than 5 respondents, therefore, data for that practice/division will not be reported. Free text responses are aggregated.
Please contact Peri Alybaeva at aiperi.alybaeva@ucsf.edu if you have any questions about or difficulties with this survey.

Your participation is greatly appreciated!!!
as of Friday 04/09/2021 we are 45.5% completed (323 out of 709 APPs)

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals launched a new unified website . This is a great milestone in the affiliation between two respected health care organizations with a shared commitment to provide the highest-quality care to all children in our communities. Following the launch the website team is continuing to review and revise content.

Please check out your clinical area’s page and let Marketing know if there are revisions needed

All requests and revisions are made by submitting a ticket via our new marketing intake portal (www.ucsfbenioffchildrens.org/marketingportal).

Please note that we are aware that some clinical area pages are not inclusive of APPs under the "Our Team" section. We have spoken to Marketing and did get consensus at an all Chiefs meeting in February 2021 that clinical area pages should be inclusive of APP's. Following are the two approved standards (as recommended by the APP Board Communications and Outreach Committee):

  1. Listing the team members in alphabetical order under 1 team section, or
  2. Listing the physicians first then the APPs and then the nurses under 1 team section

The marketing department is processing several requests. Please submit your feedback by way of the portal. We have experienced quick turnaround times.

You can use this same portal or the profile specific site to also submit your profile if it is missing.

Fellowship in Advanced Clinical Simulation at  San Francisco VA Medical Center

Fellowship Program Description:

Since 2010, the San Francisco VA Medical Center has been host to the Fellowship in Advanced Clinical Simulation. During this time period, the San Francisco site has trained over 20 fellows.
This interprofessional fellowship allows nurses, advanced practice nurses, physicians, physician assistants, pharmacists, dentists, and other allied healthcare professionals to acquire knowledge, skills, and expertise in design and application of clinical simulation techniques. The one-year fellowship provides education in adult learning theory, educational psychology, curriculum design and development, and technical training in the use of basic through high-fidelity simulators. Applications are teaching and training, research and development, systems probing and testing, quality improvement and assurance, and patient safety.

In addition to the experiences in simulation at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the fellowship offers are opportunities for simulation experiences at UCSF affiliate sites, community locations, and the VA National SimLEARN Simulation Center. The fellowship program at San Francisco VA is among 6 national sites throughout the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare system. The San Francisco site is closely aligned with the VA National SimLEARN center in Orlando, FL. Occasional travel to Orlando is financially supported and should be expected during the fellowship. Sponsored travel to simulation focused meetings is required for presentation of original scholarly work.

Experiences include participation in daily simulation program operations. Moreover, every fellow is expected to innovate by designing a scholarly simulation-based project in collaboration with the other team members. Implementation of these projects capitalizes on resources from hospital staff, local faculty members, and graduate students on their capstone project rotations on the simulation team. It is also expected that each fellow in the program will present their original academic work at a national (preferably international) level meeting. It is a graduation requirement that a manuscript is at least submitted for publication by a peer-reviewed and referenced journal.

All licensed clinicians applying to the program must be eligible for credentialing and privileging at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. For physicians, this implies completion of an US-accredited residency in an ACGME-approved program and being board-eligible or board-certified in your specialty. If the physician applicant is not a US citizen, proof of eligibility to work in the US is required. For physicians that meet the above requirements, it is possible to obtain a J-1 visa through our university affiliate. Non-physician applicants must hold a minimum of a Master's degree (doctoral degree preferred) from an accredited program and should be able to be credentialed in their professional role at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. Non-physician applicants must be US citizens to be considered. If appropriate, US citizen applicants must have registered with selective service.

All applicants are expected to have a full, unrestricted license to practice in any one of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, or Guam.

Positions available: Two per year funded by the National VA Office of Academic Affiliations.

Start date: Target July 1, 2021; End Date June 30, 2022

Extension: Fellowship may be extended for a 2nd year to add leadership and mentorship experiences, and to achieve higher level academic goals and success such as additional publications and research experience. For those who are working full time, a part-time 2-year option may be available, and this option still will meet the same requirements for completion.

Stipend: please inquire; the stipend is based on educational background, post-graduate year, and specialty training. The stipend is determined by the Department of Veterans affairs and non-negotiable. Health insurance is included with the stipend.

Program Directors:
Rich Fidler, PhD, MBA, CRNA, ANP, ACNP, CHSE
 richfidler1969@gmail.com
Jan Hirsch, PhD, MD
 jan.hirsch@gmail.com

Application process: If you are interested, please send a current resume or CV via email to the co-directors. It is helpful to include a brief statement of why you are interested in the fellowship and how you would integrate the acquired knowledge and skills into your career.

Useful Wellness and Mental Health Apps

Articles tell us what to do, but apps help lead us and remind us to practice self-care every day. Below are apps UCSF recommend, and many have been shown to be effective in evidence-based research. These high quality apps have been made available to UCSF, with some also free to the general public.
The Stress Free UC Study found that Headspace, used daily for just 10 minutes, reduced stress in a meaningful way and the benefits lasted for two months after stopping use. Headspace can be done in the morning or evening, alone or with family, or anytime you need to take a break.

Please consider trying one of these apps.

IN THE KNOW...
REMOTE WORK:

Our reliance on remote work has created benefits as well as challenges. The convenience of virtual meetings often results in stacked back-to-back meetings without breaks or transition time.

As we redefine how we interact throughout the day, we are committed to finding new ways to improve your work experience, including a number of recommendations to make virtual meeting schedules more sustainable.

We are asking all who use virtual meetings to participate in an experiment over the next six months, by adjusting meeting start times and enabling breaks. Specifically, please consider:
  • Creating standard breaks between meetings by shortening 30- and 60-minute meetings to 25 and 50 minutes respectively (or less if possible).
  • Using a standard start time of :05 (if 25 mins) or :10 after the hour (if 50 mins)
  • For meetings longer than one hour, starting at :10 after the hour and offering stretch breaks in the middle of the meeting.

You can find more details here, including best practices for time management and using meeting time more effectively. Shorter meetings also can improve meeting productivity, as outlined in this article featuring Adam Gazzaley, MD, founder and executive director of Neuroscape, a translational neuroscience center at UCSF.

This is just the start of ongoing adjustments to our work to help all of us to thrive in our new circumstances. Thank you in advance for your participation and feedback.

ALL APP STUDENTS AT UCSF HEALTH FACILITIES
All preceptors are required to ensure all students from ALL educational institutions have been vetted by UCSF prior to any educational activities, including employees. UCSF has many parts of the organization involved in this process. Their school needs an affiliation agreement with UCSF, they need health screening to be completed, they require online training for Health and Safety and APEX, and sign a HIPPA form.
