The Americans Are Ready!
The daysailers - the two Americans - are in the water, rigged, and ready to go.

Greg tells me that:
  • They need a good scrubbing down
  • They haven't had a shakedown sail yet
So if you'd like to take them out, come prepared with a bucket, scrub brush, some cleaner (Simple Green or similar), and some time and elbow grease. There is a hose and spray nozzle at the dock. And as always on the first sail after any boat has been rigged, be prepared for the need for some adjustments.

To reserve these boats, contact Small Boat scheduler Jim Buonincontri at jbuonincontri@comcast.net or 732-925-0574.

It's time to go sailing! The Rhodes and the Catalina are each a few weeks away from launching.
Rhodes Work Session
Saturday May 21
There will be a work session at the Rhodes this coming Saturday, May 21.

Location: Monmouth Sailing Center, West Street, Monmouth Beach
Contact: Mike Kunkel, makunkel@gmail.com or call or text 201-777-0187

If you're available on Saturday, get in touch directly with Mike and he'll discuss the details, including the work scheduling and the time the session will start.

If you've enjoyed the Rhodes in past years, whether as a skipper or as crew, please try to come out on Saturday to help get it ready for the coming season. SEAS is driven by volunteers!

General Meeting Tuesday May 31
7:30pm, Keyport Yacht Club
Captain Christopher Begley is a Monmouth County Resident who has spent more than 20 years sailing as a unlimited Master of Vessels of any gross tons upon the oceans, and many years piloting vessels upon the waters of New York Harbor. For more than 43 years he has been a volunteer firefighter with the Belford Engine Fire Company. As an adjunct professor at SUNY Maritime, he has taught shipboard, small boat and marina firefighting and prevention.

He will be presenting two topics:
The first is the Master's view of small boats while in pilotage waters, and the second will be on fire risk management and fire prevention.

Be sure not to miss this captivating presentation by a very experienced Merchant Mariner!
Volunteers Needed
Small Boat Day Coordinator

After several years doing an excellent job coordinating the Small Boat Days, Bonnie Delaney will be unable to continue in that role this year. We need someone to take this on - Small Boat Days are a very important part of the SEAS Monmouth calendar, offering members an opportunity to get out on our small boats and Lasers under the watchful eye of the safety boat.

Please contact Ti Zhang at tizyuq6355@yahoo.com, or Karen at kruckdes@gmail.com for more details.

Lasers Coordinator

Our chapter needs a member to coordinate the pre-season & post-season maintenance for our laser fleet. If we don't have people to step up for the role, the boat committee will consider the option to sell the lasers and consolidate the resource on existing keel boats and daysailers.

Please contact Ti Zhang at tizyuq6355@yahoo.com
Skipper Qualification Process
Over the winter, Jeanine Linse and her committee put in many hours developing a new skipper qualification process, and they recently completed the task. Coming up soon will be a meeting to present the new process to the membership. Watch this space for the details of that meeting!
We need speakers and/or topics
for our monthly meetings
If you know someone who can present a topic of interest to SEAS members, or if you attended a meeting somewhere else that had a presentation that you think would be relevant at a SEAS meeting, please let Joan Venezia know. If you are able to speak with the person about coming to a SEAS meeting that would be great, but if all you have is their name and contact information, with some background information about their topic and where you saw them, email it to Joan at joan.venezia@hotmail.com and she'll take it from there!
