Cactus Nazarene Ministries (CNM) is a ministry of the West Texas District Church of the Nazarene. It was founded in 2013 as Cactus Nazarene Ministry Center (CNMC). CNM is located in the diverse Texas panhandle town of Cactus, TX. CNM serves the 20+ cultures in Cactus and surrounding areas, primarily immigrants and refugees from Central America, Myanmar, and Africa,  through:

Phil & Denise Anderson
Co-Executive Directors

If you are interested in planning a mission trip or otherwise supporting the Cactus ministry, please see the list below to see how you can be a part of this very important ministry.

1. Immigration services: We always need people to teach ESL and Civics. It is possible as we develop this program more, we could have more students than teachers. Our intention is to reach out to the High school and develop a relationship with them we have been informed there are quite a number of students struggling with speaking english, thus being able to do their work. We also need to develop, offer and teach what we call, Texas Survival classes. These are assimilation classes for new residents of Cactus. They would teach them basic finances (budgeting, credit card use, banking, etc), cooking of American type foods, shopping for the foods and how to save money doing it, automotive classes including, how to get licensed, pay the vehicle registration, buying and general maintenance of a vehicle and other types of learning to cope in America.  It would be great to have various levels of these classes (if necessary) written and conducted by folks who might have expertise in the specific areas but probably not really necessary. Sponsoring families or individuals that do not have the finances to apply for Green Cards or Citizenship would also be a great part of the partnership. This would involve individuals or Sunday School classes or entire church raising funds to sponsor X amount of people per year.

2. It is our dream to have a separate Work & Witness building as right now the Center struggles to accommodate teams of more than 20 people as well as the Clinic operates out of the main hall which also serves as the team eating and meeting area. It's not a great set up. Therefore, one of the partnerships would be for a brick and mortar partnership in raising funds and sending teams to build a separate W & W building. The partnership could continue beyond the building in financial support of the operation of the building. During the spring and summer we have many teams often back to back, so also having Work and Witness coordinators and cooks would be of major significance to the work and ministry of Cactus.

3. CNMC desires to increase the evangelistic ministry in the community of Cactus. Through all of the ministries of the Center there is an evangelistic emphasis, but the community and CNMC could benefit greatly if one of the partnership incentives  would be to generate different activities offered to the community for the specific purpose of proclaiming the Gospel. This could be in the form of tent meetings, music concerts, sponsored dinners and preaching, one on one discipleship and door to door prayer walks etc. A church could plan various times of the year to plan organize and implement these and other evangelistic ministries.

One of the major ways we plan on initiating evangelism to the families of Cactus is through after school and summer sports camps for the kids. This will be great opportunities for specific child targeted evangelism. I.e. VBS etc. Beginning this Jan through April, we have 2 University Students coming to build this program with 3 more students from the end of May through August to build on the summer children's activities. This includes sports camps, literacy work in conjunction with the public library and a host of other activities. This all needs financial as well as people resources. We can have upwards to 40 kids a day. We would love for these activities to culminate in programs done by the kids for their parents with some kind of evangelistic foundation.

4. The Well Health Center would benefit by having teams that are in the medical profession to plan, organize and implement different screenings and health checks throughout the community in different locations, times and specific screenings. There is also opportunity for working in the office if someone would offer a few weeks of time as nurse and office administrator. These positions are generally paid but during times when the employees are sick or need vacation we don't have backup. Nurses licensed in Texas is necessary but office staff is not required to be licensed. Having some medical office experience would be great.

We are also looking for a nurse with his/her family to live and work in Cactus full time. We are opening an immunization and pre-natal clinic and will have need of a full time nurse. The Center needs a work and witness coordinator so a couple willing to live here (housing provided) and minister, would be one of the greatest answers to prayer.

5. Financially partnering to help support full-time staff with salaries as the District desires the Directors and other staff members to be salaried through CNMC alone. We are working on a number of financial grants for support but few grants like to provide money for operational needs.

Missions serving opportunity in Summer 2020 to Rockford Illinois!! Details coming soon!
NMI - God is Calling! NWIL is Sending!
Is God calling me?
Have you been feeling a nudge? Something in our soul saying there is more? Am I being called into serving? Is God calling me? Am I being called to be a missionary?

PRAY Talk with God this is the prefect place to start. God will confirm your call through time spent in prayer. This confirmation will help you as you move forward through challenging times in ministry. Your call is likely to change, develop and grow throughout your lifetime. Your call may seem specific or general, God will bring clarity over time as you continue to be faithful to His service.

CONNECT Through the process of discernment it is important to share what is going through your mind and heart with those that know you best. This is a trusted mentor, friend, and family member who know you and love you. Have a conversation with your Pastor or Nazarene Missions Intonations president at your local church. They will pray with you, provide wisdom and perspective into your calling.

RESPOND Be faithful, continue to serve, making disciples wherever you are. God has already been working on your behave and preparing the way. Continue to develop the skills you will need on the field. This is the perfect time to build healthy patterns and learn self-awareness.

5 Ways to Pray for Clarity as you consider missions service.
1. God, help me to seek you first and see the world through the lens of your love.
Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
2. God, help me to seek your desire for my life and orient myself around faithful love rather than fear.
Psalm 13:5 But I trust in your unfailing love, my heart rejoices in your salvation.
3. God, reveal to me anything in my heart that is causing me to hold back from your call.
Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
4. God, Transform me to live in the power of your holy spirit in every aspect of my life.
1 Corinthians 1:25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
5. God, transform me to live in the power of your Holy Spirit in every aspect of my life.
Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what Gods will is-his good and perfect will.

If you or someone in your church has expressed a call into missions please do not hesitate to reach out to your pastor, local NMI presentient or myself. God desires NWIL to be a sending district. Please pray for individuals to hear Gods call! It is exciting to be a part of the Movement of God!"

Southside Community Center is located in Peoria IL. SCC is in the 61605 Zip code, which is in the top 100 most impoverished communities in the United States. Southside has been heavily impacted by white flight. White flight occurs when white city-dwellers move to surrounding communities to escape the influx of minorities. Because of thi s, many houses sit empty and community member's needs have been neglected. SCC's goal is to transform the community One Relationship at a Time. We hope to implement change by establishing healthy kids, healthy families, and a healthy community.

To transform the community we must work together as a body of Christ. SCC is extending an open invitation to any group who is willing to help serve. SCC has the ability to house fifty plus people in our building. We will serve the community through work projects, summer feeding program, and our summer day camp.

We would love for you to join us for a week in the summer of 2020.

SDMI - Sunday School Discipleship International

Ellyn Book
District SDMI Director
" Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."   Matthew 28:19-20

As you are going,
THINK BIG: Every relationship, every interaction, all inclusive.

And make disciples,
START SMALL: You. Be one. Be a Christ-like disciple. Re-present Jesus.

Baptizing them, immersing them in Jesus,
GO DEEP: Pray. Empty yourself. Sacrifice.
SDMI - I Was THAT Pastor...
During my first week as a pastor, I had a mother gently put her hand on my shoulder and say, "Remember, you are my kid's pastor too."  She is an incredible mom of six amazing kids.  I appreciated the reminder but thought to myself, "Of course I'm their pastor, they are six of the thirty people that attend the church."  But, as often happens to pastors, the attention quickly drifted away from the children to the adults.

The children of the church were a vital part of the church's ministry, but not mine.  As long as the nursery volunteers and children's Sunday school teachers showed up on Sunday, I could devote my time to other, more pressing, matters of the church.  This unfortunate pattern would follow me through many years of pastoring.

Children do not sit on the board, they rarely come to my office to complain, they don't tithe (much anyway), and they rarely clean up after potlucks.  I don't mean to describe myself as some nasty ogre of a pastor that disliked kids, I liked kids.  But they never held a position of priority.

Until they did...

While in Freeport, Illinois, our kids attended Tri-County Christian School.  Tri-County is a wonderful school that offered many outstanding opportunities for our kids.  One such opportunity was a weekly chapel service where the kids had the chance to lead, worship, and teach one another.  A local pastor usually came to preach. I "filled" in a couple times, but there were more pressing matters for this pastor to attend to.

During the next year, however, things changed.  I had always remembered that statement from the kind mom of six, "Remember, you are my kid's pastor too."  I had always thought kids were capable of understanding and grasping more than the local church offered them, but I never knew what to do about it. After being asked to be the Chapel Pastor at the school, God gave me a new insight into the potential of a child.  As I preached to virtual sponges of the gospel, I discovered the faith of a child is rich, deep, multi-faceted and often more biblical than some adults. These kids became the garden to which I looked forward to sowing the Truth into each month.  I no longer saw the children of the church as a necessary burden, but lush, fertile, curious soil.

Today, as a Children's pastor, I get to see the soil being tended weekly.  I get to witness the gospel take foundation and know that it will develop deep, meaningful roots.  As a Children's pastor I do a fair amount of weeding, trying my best to remove worldly influences that distract and choke.  However, the soil offered to us in Children's ministry is so fresh, so new, so ready to receive Jesus.

I have come full circle; Jesus has opened my eyes to the  value of a child as a  Christlike Discipler. They have opportunities to reach kids that, us old people, will never reach.  And they do it so well, because the soil has yet to become hardened and dry.

I used to be  that pastor, the one that attended to children only when there was a crisis or an absence in the nursery.  But today, I am  THAT pastor, the crazy one, the silly one, the one that would gladly trade in potlucks for pizza and chicken nuggets.  I am  THAT pastor, the one who has wept with a child as they struggle in this world with things they should never have to face.  I am THAT pastor, the one that pastors the kids, the one that would give anything to reach one more disciple making child for Jesus.

I would like to invite you to take a fresh look at the Children's ministry within your church. I challenge you to see the kids as a necessary part of YOUR ministry.  Remember, you are the kids' pastor too.

Brian Eatock, THAT Pastor, and Children's Pastor at Pekin First

Welcoming THAT Pastor as Children's Ministry Director for Our District!

Lisa Abbott has filled the role of children's ministry director for our district for the past several years. While she was faithfully serving, praying, leading, obeying, and growing, He was also preparing Brian Eatock to step into this role. All in His time.

I am thankful for brothers and sisters in Christ who live surrendered lives, listen to the Holy Spirit, and boldly and obediently trust and follow Jesus. That describes both Lisa and Brian.
Thank you Lisa!
  Welcome Brian!

Join us at our 2020 Global Conference as we continue the mobilization conversation with a focus on the importance of collaboration, coming together as a body of believers. We are better together!

For more information and to register go to: Exponential2020

What is missing from many of our efforts and strategies? Doing it  Together! We are all very familiar with the Great Commission and the challenge to "Go." There has been much taught on the Great Commandment and the need to go with "Love." But it is the last part of Jesus' mission - which was Jesus' final prayer - that we have forgotten. It's the Great Collaboration - that we are to go in love Together!
"...that they may be one as we are one - I in them and you in me - so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me..." John 17:22-23

Would you give $1.00 a month if it never stopped giving, never wore out, never changed its usefulness or purpose and transformed lives?

How many times do we give a gift to someone only to see it discarded at a later date or discover it was never used as intended? Have you ever wanted to give a gift that would never grow old or wear out, that would always be used for good and made a difference for eternity? NOW you can!

Jesus said "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal."

Would you partner with your Northwestern Illinois District's vision to plant churches?  You might wonder how you can make a difference or even be a part. Everyone can. We need some to plant, we need everyone to pray and we need many to invest.

The Church Multiplication Endowment Fund is designed to reach unreached people living on the NWIL District for Christ. Every dollar given will continue to give in perpetuity. An endowment fund uses the interest from the principle to do kingdom work.  Will you help fund this goal?

Currently, our district property funds have been invested in planting 22 new churches these past three years and the district is in need of capital to continue to plant more! We need your help. Presently, there are 36 more potential church plants in various stages of planning which will require additional funding support.

Help us reach our GOAL of planting 300 churches by 2030.  We see 300 churches as 3,000 disciplemakers who disciple 15,000 disciples gathering with 30,000 worshippers.  Every dollar you give will continue to reach people for Christ your whole lifetime and beyond.

Would you consider a GIFT of $1.00 a month?  We are not trying to take money from your local ministry where you give your tithes and offerings. We are asking for many to give a little.  Our initial goal is 5,000 giving at least $1.00 a month. Would you be one of those 5,000 making a commitment to create a movement to plant churches that change lives?  Here are ways to give:

 1. You can give to your local church by marking your check or cash gift "NWIL CM Endowment" and your church treasurer will take it from there.

 2. You can also choose to give online if you want to set up one time or reoccurring payments using debit/credit/Electronic Check on the district website at nwilnaz.org/GIVE/ On District Church Planting or direct  CM Endowment Giving LINK. Or scan this QR code at the bottom of this article.

3. You can send a check or cash to NWIL District, 3520 Broadway St., Pekin, IL 61554 (please indicate CM Endowment on check memo)

We are also looking for those who might like to make greater kingdom investments!

You can give cash, stocks, bonds, real estate, livestock, grain, or other personal property.  Basically, any asset of marketable value can be used to help fund this endowment. There are also charitable gift annuity options that allow you to specify the endowment fund or another ministry of your choice while allowing you to receive income for your lifetime and when you pass, your gift goes to the endowment fund or specified ministry. CLICK HERE to see other ways to model generosity. Gifts can be given in memory or in honor of someone.

Large or small: Why not leave a lasting legacy that lasts more than your lifetime.
