UF Health expanding access to COVID-19 vaccinations
With the novel coronavirus continuing its unabated march through communities local and global, University of Florida Health is moving into the next stage of its COVID-19 vaccination program this week as it begins to offer vaccines to more than 11,000 UF Health patients in Alachua County ages 65 and over.
At the same time, UF Health is working to support the state Department of Health in Alachua County as it lays the groundwork for local efforts to vaccinate the wider community, planning to contribute personnel, training, expertise and an additional vaccination site to help expand access.
Local leaders to discuss the COVID-19 vaccine TONIGHT in a telephone town hall
Alachua County Commission Chair Ken Cornell will host a one-hour telephone town hall at 7 p.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2021, to discuss the safety, efficacy, and distribution of coronavirus vaccines in our community.
Joining Chair Cornell will be City of Gainesville Mayor Lauren Poe, Florida Department of Health Director Paul Myers, University of Florida Senior Vice President for Health Affairs and President of UF Health Dr. David Nelson, and a representative from North Florida Regional Medical Center.
While counties and cities have no direct role in the vaccine decision-making process, both Alachua County and the City of Gainesville are committed to assisting and supporting the State’s effort.
The telephone town hall event will be livestreamed on the County’s and City’s Facebook pages and websites, and on COX Cable Channel 12.
