We've had a busy summer! Below you'll be able to see some of the highlights of what we've been up to since May.
We Celebrated Children's Mental Health Week
Judge Baker Children's Center was proud to support Children's Mental Health Week this year.
For those who may not know, a big part of the holiday is dressing in green (the official color of children's mental health awareness) and taking photos to show your support. We compiled a gallery of our staff members wearing green to spread awareness from nearly every department and program within Judge Baker!

We Revamped our Family Crisis Guide
This summer we updated our Family Crisis Guide. Designed to give parents the tools to navigate caring for a child in crisis, the Guide contains comprehensive checklists, action plans, and worksheets to help you every step of the way. The Guide is also now available in Spanish!

We held Next Step and Camp Baker Virtually
We know that the challenges of the pandemic have made our families rely on our summer programs more than ever. In order to both remain a critical resource to the community and adhere to safety guidelines, we held virtual versions of our Next Step and Camp Baker programs. While the content of both programs was reworked to fit a virtual format, we were still able to offer the high-quality services people have come to expect from Judge Baker.
In fact, Thanks to a grant from the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism, we were able to increase the number of students of color and the number of students from low socio-economic backgrounds who participated in the 2020 Next Step program.
"For us, it's important to teach and foster skills and strategies that promote positive mental health in children for today and for increased resilience for future life events as a young adult, such as living independently, working, and/or attending college." -Andrew, Matt, and Noelle of Next Step.

We Celebrated Pride Month
In June, we put a spotlight on Pride. Our Evidence-Based Policy Institute partnered with the Harvard Kennedy School for our new Promoting Positive Outcomes for LGBTQ+ Youth Initiative. The project aims to engage a diverse group of stakeholders to explore the most pressing issues impacting LGBTQ+ youth and their families. We held a kickoff event in June, for Pride Month, with a diverse group of over 20 stakeholders in attendance including state officials, community providers, youth, and advocates! In addition, we were happy to share some Pride-themed artwork (see below) created by a student at our Manville School.

We Participated in Non-Profit Awareness Day
We had a lot of accomplishments to celebrate on Non-Profit Awareness Day this year! Check out the video below for a summary of what we chose to put a spotlight on.

We Created a List of Resources for
Talking to Your Child About Racism
In recognition of Juneteenth, we created a list of resources for having meaningful discussions with your children about racism. Containing everything from news articles, to picture books, to videos, we hope the list will be informative and spur important conversations within your family.

We Introduced
Parent Talk
We recognized what a big toll the pandemic took on parents during the summer. With children out of school and cut off from most of the world, a lot of caregivers were feeling lost on how to keep their children (and themselves) sane until school started back up.
In an effort to lend a hand, we launched Parent Talk, our summer newsletter, which aims to provide caregivers with actionable tips to help reduce stress, boredom, and anxiety in the household over the summer.
You can access the complete Parent Talk series by using the following links:

We Made Donations to a Local Food Bank
In May, we had the opportunity to donate food from our Manville School storage to a local food bank to help those in need.
The pandemic has taken its toll on many families, and we encourage everyone to look for small ways to support each other during this time.
