Northern California Chapters - Joint Meeting in Elk Grove
  • Speaker: Pamela De Sena, Retirement Plan Service Consultant of Kornertone Inc. (BIO)
  • Topic: California State Law requires Employer Sponsored Retirement Plan

Are you in compliance? Not sure, then join us and save yourself possible penalties.

Beginning July 2019 , California state law required that California employers, who do not already offer an employer sponsored retirement plan and who have 5 or more employees, either sponsor a retirement plan or participate in the state governed CalSavers program. CalSavers will be implemented in a three-year rollout that includes staggered deadlines based on employer size. The first deadline of June 30, 2020 is for employers with more than 100 employees. Pamela will be discussing the details of the program, fees, penalties for non-compliance and alternative options for employers.

In addition, Pamela will also be addressing the “Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act of 2019”, better known as the SECURE Act. The bill includes 29 provisions aimed at increasing access to retirement accounts and preventing older Americans from outliving their assets.

  • Speaker: Monica Baumann, Partner of Scali Rasmussen Law Firm (BIO)
  • Topic: California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) Updates - CCPA Fact Sheet

Join us for CCPA Updates and learn what dealers need to know to be and stay in compliance. The CCPA law went into effect on January 1, 2020 . Are you prepared?

What is the CCPA?
AB 375 allows any California consumer to demand to see all the information a company has saved on them, as well as a full list of all the third parties that data is shared with. In addition, the California law allows consumers to sue companies if the privacy guidelines are violated, even if there is no breach.

What does your company need to comply with the CCPA?
The law went into effect on January 1, 2020. As a practical matter, companies needed to have their data tracking systems in place by the start of 2019, since it gives consumers the right to request all the data a company has collected on them over the previous 12 months. That was a very tight time frame.

New scam targeting licensees is reminder to be wary and proactive
(Published on Wed, 01/29/2020 - 6:11pm)
The California Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), which includes the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR), is reporting that its licensees are being targeted in attempted fraud schemes and is urging awareness and caution. This is an important message for all staff members, but also a good opportunity to remind them that any communication with a licensing agency such as BAR or the Department of Motor Vehicles should be treated seriously. Following good fraud prevention habits will also help prevent important notices such as requests for information from falling in the cracks and leading to license enforcement.

Revised California OSHA law expands reporting requirements for serious injuries
(Published on Wed, 01/29/2020 - 6:14pm)
Under California law, employers are required to report occupational injuries or illnesses to their workers’ compensation insurance carrier, or to the Department of Industrial Relations (if the employer does not have workers’ compensation insurance). Additionally, employers are required to report cases involving “serious injury or illness, or death” to the Division of Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA).
