April 2015

Dear Daniels Customer

April may be the cruelest month (just ask T. S. Eliot).

However, we intend for our April "This Just In..." to be anything but cruel.

We're aiming for fun, spontaneous, informative, wacky, silly, opportunistic, engaging and very much worth your while. We intend on filling the space with items that contribute to the Joy of Spring. Observations that put a spring in your step and a smile on your lips.

 We're aiming high. Hope we hit the mark for you.

 Enjoy...

A Lost Language - of Sorts.

Ninety-odd years ago America was immersed in a terrible depression.

Millions of people were out of work, wandering the countryside, hopping trains west, hoping to catch a break. They lived by their wits and their cunning. And they had a bit of a language all their own. It served them as they moved from town to town looking for a helping hand.

Above is a pictograph of the symbols they scribbled on the fence posts nearest to a person's house. Sometimes they got fed and a bed - other times they moved on - for good reason.

In the Spring I've counted 136 different kinds of weather inside of 24 hours.

Lidia's Basil-Pistachio Pesto Pasta

Ingredients:

* 3 cups packed fresh basil leaves

* 2 cups packed fresh parsley leaves

* 1 cup toasted unsalted pistachios

* 8 cloves garlic

* ? teaspoon salt

* 1? cups plus 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

* 1 pound spaghetti

* ? cup grated Grana Padano or Parmigiano-Reggiano

Directions:

Bring a large pot of salted water to boil for pasta. In a food processor, add basil, parsley, pistachios, garlic and salt. Turn on processor and add 1 1/2 cups of the olive oil in a slow, steady stream. Process to make a smooth paste, stopping to scrape down the sides of the bowl occasionally.

Add spaghetti to the boiling water and cook until al dente. Scrape half of the pesto into a large skillet over low heat and add 1 cup pasta water. Use a spider to drain pasta and transfer to the skillet. Drizzle with remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil and toss to coat the pasta with the pesto. Off heat, toss with the grated cheese.

NOTE: This recipe makes twice the amount of pesto you will need for 1 pound of pasta. You can freeze half of the pesto for future use, just pack in a plastic container with a thin film of olive oil. Thaw in refrigerator before using. You can also cut the recipe in half if you just want enough for 1 pound of pasta.

Now for the movie - well, it could only be:

Propane service Portland CTThe Big Night

Primo and Secondo are two brothers who have emigrated from Italy to open an Italian restaurant in America.

Primo is the irascible and gifted chef, brilliant in his culinary genius, but determined not to squander his talent on making the routine dishes that customers expect.

Secondo is the smooth front-man, trying to keep the restaurant financially afloat, despite few patrons other than a poor artist who pays with his paintings.

The owner of the nearby Pascal's restaurant, enormously successful (despite its mediocre fare), offers a solution - he will call his friend, a big-time jazz musician, to play a special benefit at their restaurant. Primo begins to prepare his masterpiece, a feast of a lifetime, for the brothers' big night... Written by Tad Dibbern

April Is Paris -
And Locking-In Oil Prices
lock in CT fuel oil price

Seriously.

April, of course, IS Paris, right? And on the Pont des Art there are thousands of locks placed there by lovers pledging their eternal devotion. They "locked-in" their love right there on the bridge for all to see.

 Which, naturally, reminds us - you should do the same.

Lock in next year's oil price now - while oil is at near historic lows. With a lock-in price in place you'll know that your price will NOT rise next heating season - and if crude oil prices drop - your price will drop as well. Now is the time to lock in for 2015-16

Alice Through The Looking Glass
This sculpture of Alice Through the Looking Glass is located in Guildford in Surrey, England near a house Lewis Carroll once rented. The sculpture was made by artist Jeanne Argent using her daughter as the primary model and her friend as her 'second' because as young girls neither of them could sit still for very long.

We Forgot

We forgot to tell you.

We're growing to serve you better.

Daniels Energy has just completed the purchase of 4 Lockheed-Martin C4 aircraft. This purchase will allow Daniels Energy to delivery more home heating oil and propane to customers throughout Connecticut.

 "We anticipate being able to circle entire neighborhoods and with the most up-to-date air to ground fuel delivery system provide nearly instantaneous delivery no matter the weather conditions," said Bob Daniels.

Daniels, which has been serving Connecticut homeowners for more than 75 years with traditional oil and propane delivery trucks anticipates the delivery system change over will take place this summer.

 "The logistic are a bit of a bear, but we're confident that once we really understand how to fly these things, we're going to have a jump on every one of our competitors. We're always looking for ways to keep oil and propane prices down, and we think we're on to something here," said David Daniels.

John Daniels, the fourth generation member of the family stayed strangely silent during the news conference. Please - tell us here - what you think of the idea.
