January 23, 2021

Dear Southern Door Community,
While a lot of other schools are still struggling with how to bring students back to schools, our school team of board members, administration, and staff were brave enough last summer to do whatever they could to honor the wishes of 90% of our families who wanted school to reopen on September 1st, five days a week. Keeping focused on the district's core mission of educating students under pandemic conditions, meant a lot of planning for staff development and resources to meet the needs of both on site and virtual learners, in addition to the processes to minimize health and safety risks.

Being able to remain in session all this time is truly a testament to the power we have as a collective school community! We appreciate everyone's flexibility on those rare occasions, when children/staff may have had to be temporarily remote or quarantined. We know that those times can be an inconvenient, but such measures have ensured that we have had minimal cases with students and staff, and no documented within school spread of the virus. Whether your children attend school on site or virtually, we thank each and every one of you for trusting our plan and following the health & safety protocols at home and in the community.

The second semester brings more opportunities for us to continue working with families as partners in the education of children. As this season's co-curriculars round the corner, new ones will begin, and planned celebrations of the arts and other programs will recognize student talents and accomplishments. While we may not be able to fill the gym or auditorium with fans, like in years past, we will find other ways to celebrate the achievements of our students. Our school community remains one that is Eagle Proud and Eagle Strong!

Yours in Education,
Patti

NEW TECH AMBASSADORS CLASS
High school students in our Tech Ambassadors class have been working on some special assignments, including game day operations with Technical Director Josh Lardinois. Dale Swanson, left, learned how to operate the video scoreboard in our Eagle Gym to display advertisements and graphics during a recent girls basketball game.

The Tech Ambassadors class is under the direction of District Instruction Technology and Library Services Coordinator Nathan Smithson in collaboration with Josh Lardinois and Activities Director Korey Mallien.
CHORAL DIRECTOR EARNS SPECIAL RECOGNITION
Congratulations to Mrs. Bonnie Weydt, high school choral director and 4K music teacher, who has obtained certification as a Level I Master Adjudicator from Wisconsin State Music Association.

This recognition reflects a minimum of 15 years of teaching experience, music program excellence, participation in Solo & Ensemble Festivals, individual music performance, awards received, and a rigorous certification process by the Association.

Since introducing adjudicator "experience levels" in 1993, WSMA has looked forward to a growing core of Master Adjudicators. The WSMA Festivals team was pleased to recognize Mrs. Weydt’s continuous service and contribution to music education and her commitment to the young musicians of Wisconsin! #SDEagleStrong
FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH CONTINUES THROUGH UNTIL THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR

Please remember that A la Carte items (Middle and High School) are not included in the Free Breakfast/Lunch coverage, and will still be charged to your student's account.
