SCM COMMITTED TO HELPING SMALL, LOCAL,  DIVERSE SUPPLIERS

While this year has been a roller coaster ride for everyone, many of our local small businesses are suffering and some have been forced to shut their doors permanently. As part of the Anchor Initiative launched earlier this year, UCSF and Supply Chain Management (SCM) have made a commitment to diversify our suppliers by bringing in more small businesses. The Anchor Initiative Procurement Subcommittee is co-led by SCM's Jim Hine, associate vice chancellor and chief procurement officer, and Douglas M. Parrish, president of Red Dipper Inc., and vice president of the San Francisco African American Chamber of Commerce.

SCM Strategic Procurement is in the process of aligning our goals with those of the Healthcare Anchor Network (HAN), a collaboration of 50+ health systems supporting institutions to align internally, partner with community, and advance inclusive and sustainable local economies that sustain health and well-being. They seek to address root causes of economic and racial inequities that create barriers to health and thriving for people and communities.

As a first step, SCM has partnered with the San Francisco African-American Chamber of Commerce (SFAACC) to begin creating relationships that help small businesses access UCSF's contracts and Purchase Orders. Small businesses that we have sourced so far service the catering and construction categories. Spearheading this initiative for SCM is Strategic Sourcing Professional Marliz Copado, who recently joined the Anchor Initiative team.

What Can You Do?
  1. Support small/local/diverse suppliers by procuring your goods and services from them whenever possible.
  2. Consider shopping from small/local/diverse businesses this holiday season.
  3. SCM's Marliz Copado will host a monthly brainstorming meeting starting in January 2021 to discuss implementation tactics. We invite all to join. Email Marliz at marliz.copado@ucsf.edu to get involved.
TRAVEL
Important Revised UCSF Travel Guidance

UCSF recently made significant updates to the University-wide travel policies that were enacted in response to COVID-19. Please visit the travel guidance website to learn more about UCSF-sponsored travel and travel restrictions. The policy updates include new guidance on the approval process that is required for certain types of travel.
PROCUREMENT
Changes to Procurement Justifications

Effective November 23, 2020, Supply Chain Management (SCM) will no longer asked for Source Justification and Price Reasonableness on non-federally funded orders under $100,000. This change reduces the workload on the campus and brings our procurement rules into closer alignment with other University of California (UC) campuses and UCSF Health.

All other existing UC requirements will continue to apply, including fairwage/fairwork, data privacy and security, independent contracting rules and the Regents policy generally prohibiting contracting out.
