Dear Families,

If you've ever been in my office, or if your child has (you know...it's not always a bad thing to be in the principal's office), you might have noticed I have a thing for rocks. It probably started when a young Angie walked around selling rocks to her teachers, neighbors, uncles, and aunts for a dime a piece, so she could buy some penny candy at "Doc's" drugstore in DeWitt, Nebraska (population 598)! So, tonight as I was setting up my home office, I thought it might be fitting to capture a "TRUST" rock. We are embarking on a completely new experience. As administrators, faculty, and staff, we are asking you to trust us as we work to implement lessons and plans in a different and unique way. Especially now, in our larger community, we are trusting that people will practice caution for the prevention of something we can't see. God asks us to trust Him, too. "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." ~Isaiah 41:10

I hope you will once again forgive a late message from me. It was both heartwarming and heartbreaking to see you today, as we were able to connect but also realized that we are going to personally "disconnect" from our school for awhile. As of about 7:30 this evening, all K-8 packets had been picked up or delivered, and we have just a few ECLC families to reach out to tomorrow. I am grateful to all those faculty/staff and School Board members who helped with our curbside pick-up. Thank you for making your children's education a priority and taking time to stop by today! I hope all will agree that it went pretty smoothly.

I know you have some questions about the logistics of our school days, and I also know you have been receiving communications from teachers. We hope we won't overwhelm with communication, but we are all a little anxious about everything coming together. As we begin to partner together tomorrow, we ask for your patience as we learn the ropes of study at home, and we will be flexible and understanding while you help facilitate that in your homes. We know that not all students will be able to work on studies at the same time, as many of you must prioritize work. Please just be sure to communicate with teachers, especially during their specific "office hours" when they will be able to respond more readily. These first three days, Wednesday - Friday, will allow us all time to get our feet wet. We'll adjust as and if necessary!

To help streamline access, all teachers' lessons for each week will be posted in Sycamore. When you log in to Sycamore, you can find a message from Assistant Principal Mary Stewart under "Top Stories" called "Online Learning." She is also going to post a tutorial video as soon as possible. Daily check-ins to Sycamore will not only house information for all families in one place, it will also allow us to more easily track attendance. Teachers will still send emails and communicate with you personally, too. We just want to get started, and we'll take time to reflect on how things are going.

I want to again thank our wonderful teachers and staff. In overwhelming times, we have really put into practice some awesome teamwork and resource sharing. We never stop learning! I also want to acknowledge Mary Stewart. She has stuck out some long days with me since late last week, and I am truly grateful to her. And, to you, our school families: " Our school building may be closed for now...BUT WE ARE ALL OPEN TO HELPING OUR STUDENTS LEARN IN NEW WAYS AT HOME. Learning is not just about the building. It is a mindset, a commitment to working to a personal best. We will do that for you and with you. Our connection with you is not diminished - regardless of where we are" (MB Schmidt).

We continue to pray for all of you and appreciate your prayers in return. Now, I am going to catch up a little with my middle son who is in isolation since he just flew home from the UK...thank you for your kind thoughts and wishes as we navigate these days. One at a time.

Prayers, Angie
