Celebrating Advent with You!
Starting this Sunday, November 29, 2020, you will find two virtual worship options available supporting a Traditional Service at 9:00 a.m. and a Contemporary Service at 10:30 a.m. Both will also include elements of our Daybreak Worship. The services will be sent directly to your inbox at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning or can be found on our church's YouTube channel. Each service will be available for viewing any time after the hours of their release. Thank you for your prayers for our church, our city, the nation, and the world as we find a way forward together.
Advent Sermon Series...
Distance is on the mind these days. 'Social distancing' will surely be among the top "Words of the Year" for 2020. Are we too close? Are we far enough apart? We name the challenges of long distance relationships and sometimes exchange 'absence' in the phrase saying instead: "Distance makes the heart grow fonder." When we think of our culture today from the pandemics of COVID and racism to the distance we've known given polemic political stripes, it's hard to imagine the hope, peace, joy and love of the Advent season to come all that close this year. We might quickly quip when thinking of any of those joyous seasonal wonders, "Well, not so far!" But... the gift of Christmas is the love of Christ come close. Maybe these realities are not so far after all.
 Sermon:  Not So Far: Hope
Scripture:  Mark 13: 24-27
This Sunday's Sermon...
When COVID hit like an unexpected vacuum salesperson at our front door, dumping a load in the front room of our lives, we were all put on our heels. It couldn't last long though, could it? A week or two and we'll have this thing whipped and the NCAA tournament can resume as planned. As the days pass and we're still hoping for a semblance of life as it once was, hope has eluded us. Can hope end a pandemic? Not so far. What are we to do with hope? On this first Sunday of Advent, we lean on the word from Mark's Gospel that says, "Don't go to sleep on hope."
Join In 60 Hours of Prayer
Advent of Hope: Join in prayer for five days

Advent season is here! It begins with the light of hope. An opportunity for us to pour our collective prayers into hope for the world. We could counter distress and hopelessness by aligning our hearts to God's restorative intentions for all. There is great power in prayer for the one engaging it, the intercessory receivers and the mystery of listening for God's heart. We will be centered, drawn, inspired and surprised by hope.

Please join in a five-day prayer vigil to begin this sacred season.
"From the rising of the sun to the setting of the same."--Psalm 113:3

Let us offer our hope-filled prayers.  We would like our Broadway family and friends to sign up for each hour within these 5 days (12 hours per day) for a total of 60 hours of prayer. This will require 60 people or you may take more than one time slot. Wouldn't it be wonderful if there were two or more in the same hour?

Beginning Monday, November 30th through Friday, December 4th, we will hold continuous prayer from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"Pray without ceasing.  In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."--1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

An hour may sound like a long time but it is a sacred covering of your home, your neighborhood, our church, the community, the nation and God's world.  That's already six points of focus. The Lord's Prayer is a great template too. You might contemplate what we call God, where God dwells, God's will on earth, God's created heaven, and daily bread. It can be a conversation between you and the Divine Creator. Prayer can even be wordless centering and listening for the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Through the next few days, please contact Ingrid Luckenbill at 573.445.5312 or [email protected] to sign up for your hour(s) of prayer.  Know that your voice adds to the "two or more" power of hearts.
"For where two or three gather in my name (even virtually,) I am with them."  -Matthew 18:20

We pray the love of God into all lives.  Light a candle of hope and join us!

Virtual Community Opportunities for Youth
Blue Christmas Harp & Healing
This month's Harp & Healing will be held on Tuesday, December 1st at 5:30 p.m. Grief and loss are keenly felt during the holidays and this service will focus on those feelings with a special Blue Christmas service in the Sanctuary. Maria Trevor will provide the beautiful music, with readings and scriptures from Broadway's ministers. This service will also be recorded for virtual viewing on our YouTube channel.
Zoom  In @ Noon with Mark, Terry & John
As we are going to safely be church together, now may be the time to join your pastors and friends on the Zoom @ Noon. The group meets for a bit less than hour, and you never know whose face you'll see or voice you'll hear - maybe a Broadway member who has moved or a member who you haven't seen since outdoor worship.   Pastor Mark, Pastor Terry and John will be available over the noon hour for conversation and reflection - the casual and important moments that we miss on Sunday morning!  Just click on the image and join the conversation.

Tree of Hope Tradition Continues
Broadway has a long history of providing Christmas joy for many in our community. The Tree of Hope is a great way to continue our tradition. Check out this video from Adonica about this year's touchless tree. Then, please follow this link for our Virtual Tree of Hope. There you will find a signup for children with their ages, interests, and needs. You can also drop by the main entrance (under the portico) where you will find the Tree of Hope with a QR code that is easily scanned through the door window.

Once you have selected a recipient (or more if you are able), you will purchase gifts to benefit those at Coyote Hill, West Middle School, Alpha Hart Elementary, and Center for Early Learning North. All gifts may be dropped off outside the main doors during church office hours by Sunday, December 13th. Call the office (573.445.5312) when a drop-off is made so we may quickly collect the items. Please make sure that your gift is clearly marked with the name of your selected individual or individuals.

How wonderful to share the blessings of God with our community.
