Parents and guests benefited greatly from two presentations given to our community last week - both of which supported St. Catherine's commitment to aid in the development of the whole child in preparation for life. The presentations focused on the importance of the neurological development of a child's brain. Parents were given helpful information on how to talk to their children about preventing risky behavior and how to guide their child as they pursue their natural desire to make a contribution to the world.
Dr. William Stixrud
,
bestselling co-author of “The Self-Driven Child: The Science and Sense of Giving Your Kids More Control Over Their Lives",
discussed how parents can actively help their child to sculpt their brain to be resilient and ready to take on new challenges.
Dr. Crystal Collier
presented on the neuroscience of high-risk behavior.
She instructs students and parents on how substances and other high-risk behaviors such as alcohol/drugs, vaping, and technology overuse affect healthy brain development and how to prevent children and adolescents from engaging in such behaviors.

Supporting Documentation for Dependent Care Expenses

This time of year families often request information related to their dependent care expenses. Parents may access a statement of after-school program charges by visiting their
ParentsWeb/FACTS
account:
- Log in through ParentsWeb/Renweb
- Click "Financial" in the Blue Column
- Click "Financial Home" (in the upper right quadrant of the screen). This should take you to your home screen in FACTS
- Click on "View Details" just to the right of "Payment Plan and Details"
- Click on" View Payment Summary"
- You can then use the drop-down menu to pick the desired tax year. The school's tax ID is shown both on the screen and in the printout that is generated when you click on the printer icon.
For reference, the St. Catherine's Tax ID number is 74-1727136.

Grandparents & Special Friends Day CANCELED
|
|
As an extra precaution in consideration of the older adults in our community and for those grandparents who may intend to travel to Houston to share this special day with their grandchildren, we have made the decision to
cancel the April 9th event, Grandparents & Special Friends Day
. The
CDC recommends
that older adults avoid non-essential air travel; by canceling this event
we seek to help our older community members take action to reduce their risk of illness from coronavirus (COVID-19).
At this time all other special events will continue as planned, however, we will notify the community if additional changes or cancellations are needed.
We have developed a page on our website with information about coronavirus, which can be found at
www.stcathmont.org/covid19
and under the “What’s New” tab.

Welcome back to the High School Corner!
Peer pressure. Hormones. Mental Health. Social media. Relationships. Body image. Nutrition. Bullying. These are all topics that teenagers have questions about.
Fortunately, the way in which our theology class in the High School is set up greatly encourages us to have conversations about our bodies, our emotions, and our feelings. We frequently discuss the emphasis that the Catholic faith places on the importance of taking care of ourselves and those in our community. In order to foster open conversations and further educate the young adults at SCM, we will be hosting a “health fair” that features presentations geared towards Upper El and Adolescent Community students about topics such as the ones above. The goal of the health fair is to educate students on physical, mental, and spiritual well-being in a positive way.
The health fair will be set up in the gym and each high school student will have a poster board that accompanies their presentation. Additionally, many of the High School students will have activities and visuals—including word scrambles, videos, live demonstrations, etc.—incorporated in their presentation to give further insight into their chosen topic. We have put a great deal of work into our presentations and are excited to share them with the younger members of our community. We hope that our presentations will help inform our audience on the intricacies of living our best lives every day!
Thank you for reading; we will see you next time!
