CEO Corner
Dear York Academy Families:

During the Thanksgiving season, when we traditionally take time to give thanks, I write to express my personal gratitude. Thank you to our parents and guardians for having faith in York Academy and for sending us your beautiful children. Your children come to us with respect, tolerance and commitment in their hearts. Thank you for your support and assistance in ensuring their success during this unprecedented time.

Thank you to our students for your perseverance and commitment to learning. Your flexibility and tenaciousness reminds me that we can overcome anything together. I am so grateful for the chance to learn from and with all of you!

Thank you to our school faculty and staff for the commitment you make every day to the students and families of York Academy. I thank you for your dedication to educational and organizational excellence. I thank you for striving to meet every expectation that we’ve set for our school. Thank you for your ongoing professionalism and cooperation as we negotiate uncertainty together.

In closing, I am so thankful to be part of the York Academy Community. On behalf of the York Academy Board of Trustees and Administration, I wish you a happy and safe Thanksgiving.

It's been a challenging year, but there's so much to be thankful for. Click below to post some photos in our YARCS community padlet and show us what (or who) is most precious to you!
Notes from the Kitchen
Gina Arnold, Food Services Manager
I, along with the staff at the Lower and Upper Schools, want to wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving. Even during these challenging times, I’ve been reflecting on all that I do have to be grateful for. My list is long. I hope you can take some time to make your own gratitude list. It’s so helpful to think positively during this ever-changing time.

As a reminder, here is an overview of our free curbside meal service schedule:

  • November 23: Pre-ordered Meal Bundle Pick-up from 12 - 1 p.m.
  • November 24 - 27: No Meal Service
  • November 30: Meal Service Resumes from 12 - 1 p.m.
  • Watch for the weekly menu on our website and social media (Facebook and Instagram).

If you ordered meal bundles, you may pick them up on Monday, November 23 from 12 - 1 p.m. curbside at the Upper School. Please note that our meal service will not be offered again until Monday, November 30.

Thank you to everyone who pre-ordered meal bundles. The response was outstanding, and it made me question if you’d prefer more meal bundles or to continue the daily hot meal service. Please take a few minutes to answer a very short survey below. Thank you.
Eat well and be healthy,
Ms. Gina
Congrats to Dr. Dawnmarie Ezzo, our Director of Curriculum and Instruction, for being our Knight Staff Superstar and embodying the IB learner profile attribute of being knowledgeable! When we use this attribute, we develop a conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across a range of disciplines. We engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.

According to her nominee, Dr. Ezzo has been incredibly helpful and knowledgeable with all things related to Canvas. The time she spent familiarizing herself with the platform is truly appreciated. Dr. Ezzo is always ready to answer the many questions we throw at her. She's amazing!

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and supporting our team, Dr. Ezzo. You are valued!
Second Grade Hero Reception
The Second Grade Hero Reception was different this year, but still just as impactful as ever! The second graders chose a personal hero and wrote a letter telling that person how they made an impact on their life. Students were able to type their letters and share them virtually over Zoom. Click here to watch some of our students share their messages.
We continue to be impressed by the thoughtful connections they make to our Central Idea (the role of heroes make an impact on people). We are grateful for all those who help our second graders be the awesome people they are!
MYP Self-Portrait Collages
First trimester 7th and 8th grade artists embraced portraiture and color theory to create wonderfully expressive self-portrait collages! Developing skills in drawing, line quality, and color mixing and blending, students used pen and ink and colored pencil to draw themselves from observation. They were given freedom in media and technique to create a background for their self-portrait that reflects who they are while also utilizing materials available to them at home. Students were also responsible for photographing and submitting their work. Whether face-to-face or through the magic of Zoom, York Academy's young artists continue to shine!
MYP Second Trimester Schedule Updates
We heard you, and we've made some updates to the second trimester MYP schedules. Please watch the video below to learn about the changes.
Last Call: Upper School Thankful Thoughts House Challenge
This month our Upper School staff and students have been focusing on things they are thankful for. They've been making short videos on Flipgrid to share their thoughts with others.

As a reminder, this is the last weekend to post thankful thoughts. All of the details for the challenge can be found here. House points will be awarded to all students who upload their thankful thoughts! Remember, there is always something to be thankful for.
Keep Us In the Know
We've noticed that some of the contact information we have for our parents/guardians is outdated. Please update us if your email, address or phone number changes so that we can keep in touch with you. This is especially important during the pandemic and in case of an emergency.

Call the Lower School Office at (717) 801-3900 or the Upper School Office at (717) 900-5001 to keep us in the know. Thank you!
