FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

April 29, 2022

Principal’s Highlights,

Greetings “Tiger” Students and Families,

The amazement just continues to happen here at LC, and I am so proud of our staff and students for how hard they work and seeing the results of their hard work and dedication. As a result, our school was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as the number one high school in Spokane. This was based on our graduation rate, college readiness of students, and our overall student enrollment. Our students and staff have been working hard on state assessments and will continue with this academic measure for the next two weeks. Our student will also be doing their best on Advanced Placement exams starting next week.

During this assessment season, we have been experimenting with having one lunch and longer class periods organized within a “block’ schedule, meaning extended class periods. This week has gone very well, and we have learned so much. Daily, we remind our students that our CAMPUS IS CLOSED meaning students MUST remain on campus during lunch time. Your support is greatly appreciated. We want to keep students safe and on time for learning.

Thank you for your support with monitoring your student’s social media use and the amount of time they spend using technology. Also, we have seen an increase in vandalism and car break ins lately, so please remind your student to avoid leaving bags, purses, or anything of value in their cars. We are working with our Campus Safety and Security team to help support us with this issue.

I have enjoyed the many conversations with parents and students and hope to continue learning more about each of you and please continue to connect with me if you ever have any questions or concerns. I want LC to continue to be a special, safe place for all kids and staff.

Enjoy your weekend,

Mr. Ivan Corley

Principal

TigerFund.jpg

LC Tiger Fund Scholarship

The Lewis & Clark Tiger Fund Scholarship was started by the Class of 1966 in 2006 in order to recognize an LC senior who has overcome personal and/or life difficulties and has made a commitment to furthering his/her education after graduation from Lewis & Clark High School. We know that there are many students who have potential for college success but often get over looked for scholarship assistance because their G.P.A. did not exceed a 3.5 minimum required for scholarship consideration. We also know that character and desire to improve play a large part in future success in school and life.

Two scholarships will be awarded in 2022; one for $2500 and one for $2000. Download the app here.

Applicant Qualifications:

  1. Applicants must be a LC Senior graduating in 2022.
  2. Must have a verifiable financial need that would make it difficult to pursue a college or university education without monetary assistance.
  3. Must have had a personal life challenge/difficulty that they have overcome.
  4. Must have a cumulative grade point average between 2.5 and 3.49.

Procedures:

  1. Applicants must meet all of the above qualifications.
  2. Must complete the LC Tiger Fund Scholarship application form.
  3. Must attach a copy of their official transcript with the application.
  4. Must attach a personal essay – see application for details.
  5. Must attach two letters of recommendation - see application for details.
  6. Must mail all documents to the Selection Committee Chairperson no later than April 30, 2022 - see application for mailing address.

Notification: Upon selection, the recipients of the 2022 LC tiger Fund Scholarships will be notified of his/her award via a personal letter and will be recognized at the Move-Up Con in June if that event will be held this year. The scholarship funds will be released to the student’s college or university upon verification of enrollment in the Fall 2022 college term.

Go to to www.fafsa.gov for more information.

In order to file the FAFSA, both the parent and student must first create FSA IDs. We strongly encourage you to create your FSA ID now because it takes approximately 1-3 days for the FSA ID to be verified and ready to be used. Get yours today! Learn more about FAFSA at 101: FAFSA

PARKING.png

Student and Parent/Visitor Parking

Parent/Visitor Parking: LC does not have designated visitor parking, so you can park at any of the metered spots across the street. For after-hours events, you can park for free in any of the parking lots under the freeway. The doors to the Commons building are handicap accessible.

Student Drop-off/Pick-Up: Before and after school, 4th Avenue in front of LC is a busy place with school buses and parents competing for limited space. In order to help alleviate congestion, we recommend that parents drop off and pick up students either on 5th Avenue, 3rd Avenue or a block east or west of LC on 4th Avenue. It is important to not park (even for a drop off) in the bus zones.

Student Parking: LC students can park in the two freeway lots (in front of the Field House and in front of the church to the east). Be sure to display your student parking permit to avoid getting a ticket in the student lots. Student parking permits can be purchased in the Business Office for $5. The lot directly in front of the main building and the parking garage are only for LC staff and are monitored for cars without staff permits.
