Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) is currently closed due to COVID-19, but that hasn't stopped them from holding fun concerts and activities for people to enjoy virtually. Jazz Jam Sunday is the soonest of these events, happening on Sunday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m. This event is held every second Sunday of the month, usually at the center itself. However, due to quarantine and social distancing guidelines, this Sunday's Jazz Jam will be held via a Facebook livestream on HCA's Facebook page. Tune into Jazz Jam to listen to a concert by the MetroWest Jazz Project. Although the concert is free, $5 donations online are appreciated. Jazz Jam isn't the only event happening this month at HCA. For more music, attend their Cabaret Open Mic Night on Friday, June 19 from 7:30–9:00 p.m. over Facebook Live. Younger children may enjoy the Princess Zoom Time workshops on June 18 and June 27, in which a Disney Princess will read a story, sing a song and lead participants in a simple dance. Those who are more technically-minded can try one of the two Summer Movie Making Workshops, five-day workshops in which students learn to make their own short films on their iPhone or iPad. If you aren't interested or don't have time for these events, you can also check out HCA's online art exhibit, the 2020 Hopkinton High School Honors Show, full of incredible artwork by the school's most skilled art students. While the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Museum is currently closed due to COVID-19, they have free and fun virtual programs for families to enjoy. Their Family See & Sketch workshop is a Zoom program meant for children ages 6 and up to attend with an adult. The workshop explores art through examination, discussion and creation. Participants get to make art with common household materials as part of their learning. The soonest workshop takes place tomorrow, June 12 from 10:00–11:00 a.m., but the workshop is recurring throughout the summer, focusing on a different piece of artwork each session. RISD Museum also has Art & Design Lab for Teens, a recurring workshop geared towards teens ages 13–18. This program is less formal and structured, and is meant to serve as a social gathering and source of creative inspiration for teenagers interested in art. The Design Museum has loads of webinars and livestreams available for viewing on its website while their facilities are closed to the public. One of these upcoming webinars is Sketch Series: Draw Footwear with Michael DiTullo. Part of the ongoing Sketch Series offering drawing instruction, this workshop is hosted by artist and designer Michael DiTullo. DiTullo has designed for companies like Google, Honda and Nike, and "can draw anything" according to The Design Museum. In Draw Footwear with Michael DiTullo, DiTullo will teach viewers techniques on drawing footwear with pen and marker on paper. Many aspiring artists find drawing shoes difficult, so this workshop offers a unique and valuable learning opportunity. The program takes place on Friday, June 26 from 12:00–1:00 p.m. and is free to members of The Design Museum and only $12 for non-members.
