BLACKHAWK ALUMNI ANNOUNCE 2020 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
Congratulations go out to  Andrew Capuano of St. Rita High School,  Olivia Turman of Lake Park High School and  Evan Wurzbacher of John Hersey High School on being named the recipients of the 2020 Blackhawk Alumni Association Scholarship.

The Blackhawk Alumni Association (BHAA) distributes college scholarships annually to the three most deserving high school hockey players in Illinois. Awards are determined from a candidate's level of community service, volunteerism, good citizenship, academic performance as well as the hockey talent of the individual who receives an annual $7,000.00 scholarship over four years.

These players will be honored at the Blackhawk Alumni Scholarship Luncheon on Monday, March 9, 2020 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. All of us here in Illinois are proud of their accomplishments in the classroom, in the community and on the ice.

Tim Stapleton - Players' Category
Born in Oak Park, Illinois, as the youngest of three children to Chris and Berna Stapleton, Tim's passion for playing hockey was evident from the first time he put on skates at just three years old. Every winter, Tim's father built ice rinks in their backyard where Tim played incessantly. Off the ice, Tim idolized the Detroit Redwings, faithfully following the career of his idol, Steve Yzerman.  At four years old, Tim joined the youth hockey team The Oak Park Eagles. He continued his young hockey career in Oak Park, playing at Fenwick High School for the Friars. After two seasons with the Friars, Tim aspired to play at the AAA Hockey level. During tryouts, Tim's talents were recognized by Chicago Chill Head Coach Larry Pedrie, effectively placing Tim on the team for two years. READ MORE>>

When Designing a Practice, Don't Forget the Goalies
By Greg Bates, Special to AHAI - Goaltenders always deserve a little love.  Steve Thompson knows that firsthand having played goalie at the Division I level for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.  These days, Thompson is trying to get goalies all the attention they need. As USA Hockey's American Development Model (ADM) manager for goaltending, Thompson focuses on teaching coaches around the country to feel comfortable working with young players at that position.  He crosses paths with plenty of coaches who are quick to admit they don't know much about training goalies, so they tend to exclude many goalie-oriented activities in practice.
