September Special City Council Meeting Recap
City Council met in a joint special session with the Zoning & Planning Commission at City Hall on the evening of Monday, September 13. Here is a recap from that meeting:

CONSTITUTION WEEK:
Mayor Kilgore presented a signed proclamation to Nancy Forage, Regent with the Lohmann's Ford Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, proclaiming the week long period of September 17 - 23 as Constitution Week. The observance is commemorated the same time period every year. September 17, 2021 marks the 234th anniversary of the framing of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention.

SQUARE ON LOHMANS
In the special joint session Monday evening, City Council members and commissioners of the Zoning and Planning Commission received a presentation by Legend Communities, Inc. on a proposed development at the property site located along Lohmans Crossing Road across from The Hills entrance where the future Main Street extension would eventually be in place. The proposal is an alternative to their current commercial and single-family zoned development. The alternative project includes a Planned Unit Development (PUD) allowing commercial, mixed-use and single-family residential uses for these properties. It would also focus around a town square and main street concept. Councilmembers and commissioners asked several questions and gave comments on the proposal, but there was no action taken at the meeting. The developer is planning to host a special town hall for the community to learn more about the proposal at the Rough Hollow Pavilion on Tuesday, September 28 starting at 6 p.m.

FY 2022 BUDGET PUBLIC HEARING:
A public hearing was held on the proposed FY 2022 city budget, which is set to be approved by City Council next Monday and will take effect on October 1. The proposed budget uses the proposed tax rate of .1545, and calculates revenue to be $16,416,000, with expenditures being $16,405,809 while keeping the fund balance or reserves at 35% of expenditures, which is well above the 30% target threshold. Approval of the budget and tax rate will take place at the regular City Council meeting next Monday evening (September 20) at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. If you'd like to submit your comments or feedback, email us at [email protected].
