CALL 2-1-1 offers new telephone reassurance  for homebound seniors

Community Access Line of the Lakeshore (CALL 211) has a new telephone reassurance program for homebound older adults.

Trained staff and volunteers make regularly scheduled phone calls to homebound older adults, age 60 and older, to provide wellness checks and socialization. The program is designed to support homebound individuals in remaining independent in their own homes for as long as possible.

There is no cost to participate. The frequency and time of day for the calls can be determined by the participant or a caregiver.

The program serves older adults in Muskegon County, Oceana County, and parts of Ottawa County: Blendon Township, Georgetown Township, Holland City, Holland Township, Hudsonville, Jamestown Township, Olive Township, Park Township, Port Sheldon Township, Zeeland City, and Zeeland Township.

For more information, or to enroll in the program, call 231-733-7003, or 888-353-6717, or email [email protected].
Senior Advocates Coalition meets Monday, Feb. 10

The Senior Advocates Coalition  represents  the interests of older persons by educating public officials, consumer advocates and the community about older adult needs.

The next meeting is Monday, Feb. 10,  at Tanglewood Park, 560 Seminole Road, from 1:30-3 p.m.

Representatives from the Aging & Adult Services Agency (AASA) will attend to gain feedback about needs and gaps in programs and services in the state and region. AASA is Michigan's designated state unit on aging. Every three years AASA updates the state plan on aging, which serves as a blueprint for coordination and advocacy activities the state will undertake to meet the needs of older adults.

We hope you'll consider attending Monday, Feb. 10, to provide input into the next plan.

Future meeting dates are:
Monday, March 9 - Congressional aides
Tuesday, May 12 - Older Michiganians Day in Lansing
Monday, June 8 - Congressional aides
Monday, Sept. 14 - state and federal representatives
Monday, Nov. 9 - state legislators
