Thank You to Our Lake Clean-Up and Blood Drive Volunteers!

como lake pavilion clean-up.jpeg

Thanks so much to everyone who came out last weekend to make our first 2022 Como Lake Clean-Up event a success! We had 32 community members help collect 50 pounds of trash from the lakeshore! The next Como Lake Clean-Up is scheduled for Tuesday, June 28, at 6pm.

We also had our third Como Community Blood Drive this week at the Zoo where the Red Cross collected 60 units of blood from nearly 60 donors, including Pioneer Press reporter Fredrick Melo who shared his blood drive experience on Twitter. Special thanks to our sign-in table volunteers Jessica, Kelly, Betsy, and Judie!! The next blood drive will be on August 2.

Capitol Improvement Budget Applications

The St. Paul District Councils have again been asked to help score the applications for the Capitol Improvement Budget (CIB) funding. This requires reviewing 36 applications for projects throughout the city and scoring them using a point system provided by the city.

You can view all of the applications and scoring guide here on the D10 website, including two submitted by D10 (Numbers 8 and 9). The city has added a form for community members to submit their own ranking. If you would like to share any feedback you have to help us score the projects, you can email district10@district10comopark.org. Scoring is due June 3.

Get Involved: Como Neighborhood History Project

The D10 Neighborhood Relations Committee in happy to introduce the Como Neighborhood History Project. We're partnering with St. Kate's University to explore the history of our Como neighborhoods.

We'll be collecting stories from our neighbors that have lived here for most of their lives. We are more than the State Fair and Como Park! We are a neighborhood of shops, institutions and families. Let’s collect those stories together!

How You Can Get Involved:

  • Dig through your old photos! Share pictures of our neighborhood from the past. We are especially looking for old pictures of businesses, street scenes, homes, or schools that used to be here and are now gone like Sugar Dave’s Drive-Inn at Como and Snelling!
  • Help us find neighbors to interview! Suggest a family member, friend, or neighbor that has lived in the D10 community for most of their lives. Help us interview them or we can help with the interview to get their memories saved.
  • Design a walking tour! Keep us healthy and fit while we are walking past interesting houses, pieces of art or cool institutions.
  • Research and write a story! Help us research the many buildings, institutions, and past events that have shaped our community. Do you have old documents about the history of Como Elementary or Tilden School? Have a story about the old corner store or garden nursery business in your neighborhood, know a house that had interesting or famous folks living there, share them with us!

Reach out to history@district10comopark.org if you'd like to contribute or get involved!

Como Pavilion Parking Lot Construction

A lot of progress was made this week and the city hopes to have the southern lot complete and open for use by the end of the day today. Both north and south parking lots should be open for the holiday weekend.

First thing on Tuesday morning, the northern lot will be closed to allow construction to begin. Access to the upper parking area above the Hamm Waterfall will be sporadic depending on work underway on the northern lot. They can not guarantee there will be access for the duration of construction of the northern parking lot.

Trail detour signage has been removed for the weekend. Please note that additional pedestrian detours will be necessary for the northern parking lot. The construction schedule is weather dependent, but the North lot is expected to be completed by early July.

The golf course parking lot will begin construction on September 6, just after Labor Day. It will be fully closed while it is under construction. The city is working with the contractor to complete the parking lot construction before the end of 2022, though it will continue to be weather dependent.

The city will continue updating the project page on their website as the construction dates solidify. The final plans were presented to the D10 Land Use Committee back in October, you can watch the recording here on our website.
