Teacher and Support Staff Employee of the Year
District seeks nomination letters
The Ray-Pec School District is seeking nominations for the 2021 Teacher of the Year and Support Staff Employee of the Year. The award finalists will be honored in late spring.
 
Anyone may nominate a teacher by submitting a letter of nomination by Feb. 5. A candidate must:
 
  • Be a full-time teacher, librarian, or counselor.
  • Be returning to teach in 2021-2022 in the District.
  • Have completed 3 or more years teaching at Ray-Pec.
  • Be effective and innovative in the classroom.
For the Support Staff award, you may nominate a full-time or part-time employee who has worked at least one year for the District. The deadline is also Feb. 5.

Examples of eligible employees include: accompanist, accounts payable, buildings and grounds, child care, child nutrition, crossing guards, lunch monitors, media assistants, paraprofessionals, Panther Pride, payroll, safety and security, secretaries, teacher aides, and technology employees.

Annual employee awards
Second semester begins on Monday, Jan. 11

Ray-Pec students will resume their in-person, ViPR (virtual), or A/B schedules on Monday, Jan. 11. 

COVID-19 symptoms
If your child was exposed to COVID-19 during the winter break, has symptoms, or is waiting on test results, please contact your child's school and do not report to school. Keeping students at home when any COVID-19 symptom is present has proven to be a very effective mitigation strategy in an effort to keep schools open. 

Other calendar dates:
  • Jan. 18 - Ray-Pec schools are not in session in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.
  • Jan. 19 - Schools are not in session to allow staff to participate in planned professional development activities.

Students may be evaluated for LEAP program
LEAP nominations accepted through Jan. 31
Logic, Enrichment, and Academic Pursuit (LEAP) is an intervention program for students who have been identified as gifted learners. The Raymore-Peculiar LEAP program serves gifted students in grades 2-8. LEAP flyer

Students must meet qualifying levels on identified assessments to participate in LEAP.  Each year, parents or teachers may nominate students in grades 1-7 for candidacy to be evaluated for LEAP. Nominations must be submitted by Jan. 31. Nomination Form 
Top spellers to compete in District Spelling Bee

The Raymore-Peculiar School District Spelling Bee is scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 13. To keep participants safe, the event will be conducted via a Google Meet during the school day, instead of as an evening event. The winner of the District Bee will compete in March in the Cass County Spelling Bee.
 
The top spellers in grades 4-8 will compete in the District Bee. Congratulations to these top spellers, listed by school:
  • Bridle Ridge Elementary School: Briley Hicks, 5th grade; Alexis Schimpf, 4th grade; and Rose Sykes, 4th grade.
  • Creekmoor Elementary School: Maverick Haydon, 4th grade; Mac Northcraft, 5th grade; and Lexie Schram, 5th grade.
  • Eagle Glen Elementary School: Maxx Breuer, 5th grade; Lailah Williams, 5th grade; and Alec Wise, 5th grade.
  • Peculiar Elementary School: Emma Harrison, 4th grade; Jocelyn McCorkendale, 5th grade; and Ava Schinze, 5th grade.
  • Raymore Elementary School: Brooklin Brandenburg, 4th grade; Addison Corder, 5th grade; and Logan Pennington, 5th grade.
  • Stonegate Elementary School: Grant Bertolone, 5th grade; Rathe Cooper, 4th grade; and Maci Heintzelman, 4th grade.
  • Timber Creek Elementary School: Evan Moore, 5th grade; Hezekiah Ramos, 5th grade; and Kendall Sanchez, 5th grade.
  • East Middle School: Collin Cooke, 8th grade; Brooklyn Meloy, 7th grade; and (Opemipo) Precious Adeyemo, 8th grade.
  • South Middle School: Ethan Hunziker, 7th grade; Joey Schmalz, 8th grade; and Katherine Howe, 7th grade.

Two candidates have filed for School Board
Filing period continues through Jan. 19
Billy King of Raymore and Athenia Ingram of Peculiar have filed to run for election to the Raymore-Peculiar School Board.

School Board candidate filing began on Dec. 15. The filing period continues through 5 p.m. Jan. 19 for the election on April 6, 2021. There are two positions available with three-year terms. Board members whose terms expire in 2021 are Ashley Jones and Billy King.
