Free Legal Clinic April 12 in Pasadena

Do you have questions about your child's education? At this free legal clinic on Friday, April 12, MHAS attorneys, pro bono attorneys, and law students from USC Gould School of Law will provide consultation and information on special education law and services, school discipline, behavior challenges and other topics as they relate to academic success.  Clinic presented by MHAS, Community Works and Learning Works. More information is available on our website.
 April is Fair Housing Month!

The U.S. Dept of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) celebrates Fair Housing Month every April.  Helpful information about fair housing rights for people with disabilities is available from HUD and the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing.  You can also read MHAS' Fair Housing Tips on our Fair Housing Publications page.

On April 26, MHAS Executive Director Jim Preis will be among the presenters at Project Sentinel's 7th Annual Fair Housing Symposium in Mountain View, CA.

Celebrating Our Volunteers

On March 6, we held our annual Volunteer Appreciation Event at the Border Grill to thank the dozens of volunteers who contributed over 4,700 hours of service in 2012. This occasion also gave us the opportunity to thank our Board of Directors for their generous support and service throughout the year. We thank MHAS Board President Francis Ryu for sponsoring this festive event. Thanks also to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Mix n' Munch Cereal & Grilled Cheese Cafe for donating door prizes!

Without the energy and dedication of the many law students, pro bono attorneys and others who volunteer at MHAS, we could serve only a fraction of the individuals and families seeking our help.

Justice Bus Trip to Palmdale

On March 8, MHAS and OneJustice joined with law students from UC Irvine School of Law and pro bono attorneys from Verizon for a free legal clinic in Palmdale focusing on education issues.  Despite the snowy conditions en route to Palmdale, the volunteers all made it to the clinic to consult with parents about their children's rights as well as strategies for obtaining appropriate educational services.
