The Harvard ALI Social Impact Review aims to bring together diverse stakeholders and voices to drive positive change on significant global issues. The Review will feature articles, interviews, op-ed commentaries, and reviews of relevant social impact books and materials on climate change, health, democracy, education, and more. Get involved!

The National Student Resource Network (NSRN) is working to support community efforts to meet pandemic challenges. Founded by three Harvard Medical School students, NSRN is a volunteer network of health professional students helping local partners in their COVID-19 responses. Their explicit goal is to center health equity in their volunteer work and they need your help to connect with local leaders. Get involved!

Deborah DiSanzo (2019) says that artificial intelligence can be a game changer for COVID-19. In an article for TechBeacon, Ms. DiSanzo explains how machine learning can be of help during a pandemic.

Lisa Macpherson (2019) says big tech's advertising practices harm us all. In an op-ed for the Seattle Times, Ms. Macpherson says we need a strong referee to change the advertising game and protect consumers.

Beatriz Merino (2018) is providing Peruvian society with high-quality research that serves democracy. Ms. Merino announced the formation of the Beatriz Merino Institute and two new projects designed to propose practical solutions to benefit all people in Peru.

Rati Thanawala (2018) is helping launch a new leadership academy for students of color and women who are interested in careers in technology and engineering. Together with Prof. Hannah Riley Bowles (HKS), Ms. Thanawala will lead the teaching team for the new program at UMass Amherst.

Thuli Madonsela (2017) says the media is the sunshine we need to fight corruption. In a recent opinion piece, Ms. Madonsela argues that transparency in the modern world is impossible without the media.

Amanda Rischbieth (2017) says that public health crises like the current pandemic require collaboration across every sector of society. Dr. Rischbieth co-authored an article with Prof. George Serafeim (HBS) and Dr. Howard Koh (SPH/HKS) titled, "Sustainability, Business and Health" in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Ken Kelley (2015) is helping treat and prevent serious infectious diseases, including COVID-19. Mr. Kelley and IDBiologics recently announced that the peer-reviewed publication Nature has published results demonstrating the ability of its ultra-potent monoclonal antibodies to completely neutralize the virus.

Judy Perry Martinez (2015) is urging the U.S. Senate to support nursing homes in its next COVID-19 stimulus bill. In an open letter to senate leadership, Ms. Perry Martinez says that reauthorization of the Elder Justice Act would promote transparency related to the presence of COVID-19 in nursing homes.

Paul Irving (2010) says that the pandemic has given rise to a new form of ageism throughout the U.S. Appearing on a panel on the topic, Mr. Irving explained that ageism is, sadly, the one acceptable 'ism' in America.
