School Closed Through April 3rd

Dear AL Community,

Out of an abundance of caution, and in consultation with local public health, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas has ordered all schools to close in order to curb the potential transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19). KC schools will be closed through April 3 and children should stay home. We understand this action may pose added hardship for some of our families.

Académie Lafayette is in the process of finalizing the options we have for our students to continue learning while the school is closed. Our IT department is preparing the chromebooks and internet hotspots to loan to students who may need them based on the survey results and our finance department is also working with DESE to see how to provide lunch to our families in these critical times.

We are working to put together a list of community resources families can use to help through the hardships these closures may cause and will share those with families in the near future. The PTO has initiated a Go Fund Me campaign to support our AL families who may need help.

We will remain in close contact with local health public officials and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education throughout the duration of this closure and will provide updates to families as appropriate.

We understand this is a time of uncertainty and concern. We will work through this together to keep our students, families, and staff safe.

Sincerely,

Elimane Mbengue
Head of School
