IMPORTANT PROGRAMMING UPDATE
|
|
Dear Camp Tavor Family,
We’re thinking about you and wishing everyone health, wellness and peace in these challenging times. I hope you received our
community update
sharing that we will be canceling all in-person programming until further notice, as we work to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and the most vulnerable in our communities.
I want to share my gratitude to all of our staff and tzevet who have spent time and energy preparing for these events and we look forward to integrating this rich and creative content into future programming.
While there is so much that is unknown, we continue to be hopeful that our plans for an extraordinary summer will continue. Of course, we are in close touch with our friends and partners in the camping world, as well as relevant health agencies, and we will make decisions about year-round and summer programming together. The good news is that we are not alone in any of this. In fact, we are increasingly aware of how much we are all in this together.
As schools close and we all do our best to promote public health by spending more time at home, we are considering how our community can best provide support and comfort. We will be in touch as we finalize these plans and look forward to being together soon. For now, we commit to continuing to provide a robust platform for stories, photos and reflections about our summer and year-round work in the Tavor Times, and work to bring the kesem (magic) of camp into these challenging times.
I’m wishing everyone health, wellness, and peace.

This past weekend Tavor’s mazkirut traveled from around the globe to gather in Brooklyn NY for Moetzet Mazkirut!
Moetzet is a gathering of all of HDNA’s mazkirut to meet, discuss some of the dilemmas of the movement, and share some bagels!
We experienced some very cool peulot about peer leadership, Jewish pride, and the dilemmas of zionism. Did you know even Mazkirut still gets bored sometimes in peulot!? But not to worry, coffee and trader joe's snacks kept us attentive through this intense seminar.
|
|
We ended the weekend by sharing each machaneh’s vision for the summer and with a rousing rendition of the movement’s anthem, Od Lo Gamarnu!

Living our values, now more than ever.
|
Nathan reminds us who we are and how we get through trying times...
" It is easy to lookout for just yourself, or your family, in the weeks and months ahead. But at Tavor we also learn of the value of Tikkun Olam, of repairing the world. And we know that it is our responsibility to be there for those that need help, regardless of who they may be or our familiarity with them. Our community is strong, and it is both brave and compassionate, two of the most radical and necessary traits to have right now."

Hi there.
My name is Sam Zielinski and I am the new Office Administrator for Camp Tavor.
I recently joined the team about a month ago and am excited to be part of such a vibrant and strong group of people.
Though I am not Jewish myself I am becoming familiar with many of the rituals and beliefs associated with being Jewish through my main job at the Beth Israel Congregation in Ann Arbor, MI.
|
|
Throughout the past month or so I’ve even noticed a few familiar faces and names of people who are part of both organizations and I’m happy to see the crossovers. My own experience with summer camps was at a Boys & Girls camp located in Bay View, MI (near Petoskey) where I went for most summers from age 8-12. I also tried several other summer camps during this part of my life and understand the need to find the right fit.
My hope is that in my role I will be able to make this a reality for more people and help them find that right fit in Camp Tavor. I look forward to getting to know all of you better as the year progresses and we get closer to the summer!
