Rector's Ramblings

If you don't yet know someone who has contracted COVID-19, it probably won't be long until you do. Until we have a vaccine program in place, many of us will contract this disease one way or another. Not all, but enough that we will all know someone, if it's not we who get sick ourselves. Although we have numerous parishioners whose families have been touched by this disease already, we have had one parishioner so far who has tested positive. Some of you have already heard about him, because he happens to be married to one of our priests, and word travels fast on a small island. Uli Keller, husband of Mother Becky Rowell, is doing well as he approaches the end of his second week of symptoms, but he was very sick not long ago.

Holy Week Services for Worship at Home

To assist in this process, the Diocese of Georgia has created a worship guide book for the Three Great Holy Week services that you can download here and use in your home.

The Backpack Buddies Update
A Message from Backpack Buddy Ringleader and Ringmaster  Susan Shipman:

Because we rely on Communities in Schools to deliver in the neighborhoods that the Burroughs Molette students attend, their distribution is on "break" until next week. Other children are being fed through the Boys & Girls Club hot dinners they are serving each evening. The Backpack Buddies will still be delivering weekend bags for Oglethorpe Point Elementary students who live in the Center City and St. Simons Elementary students in the Dixville area.

A few Buddies will be helping Second Harvest with a drive through distribution of food boxes on Thursday morning at their warehouse. Those boxes will go to seniors and families in need who are in need of food. (St. Athanasius is also delivering food bags to shut-ins.) The National Guard is handling a large part of that heavy lifting at Second Harvest and the distribution is being sponsored by Darius Slay, a Brunswick High graduate and Philadelphia Eagles football player!

Next week, we will hopefully get back more into our usual packing routine, though it will be shifts of small numbers of people. A special shout out to Lynne Turner who has made masks for us to wear while packing!
Helping the Community in Times of Need
We invite all parishioners to support community relief efforts as they are able.

Two local non-profits (there are others) that will be doing good works to address this current crisis include:

FaithWorks - many of you know FaithWorks and their many outreaches, from The Well, to Sparrows Nest and much more.  https://faithworksministry.org

Firebox - a relief organization here in Glynn County, started by the folks as Southern Soul to support restaurant workers in need. Many restaurant works are or will soon be out of work.  https://ssbbqfirebox.com/mission/
Easter Food Basket Delivery for Local Families
On Friday, April 3, baskets of Easter food, including gift certificates and Easter hams were delivered to 24 Glynn County families, to help brighten their Easter celebrations. This outreach was an extension of the annual Christ Church Thanksgiving and Christmas Basket Ministry. Many thanks to Brother Theodore Holmes, Susan Shipman, Lynn Kennedy and Jeannie Wade for bringing this project to fruition!
